Donovan doesn't have to be. They say for best readings it should be 6" off to the side.

This bench at this range is narrow so to get it close thous is where it had to be. On the left side, I couldn't get my bipod adjustments or my ammo without bumping the unit

Update: now I've used this for several months I'm still pleased and enjoy using the unit during load testing. However, mine picks up other Shooters if they are right next to me. On the other end of range, no issues. Bench next to me, it picks up there shots too whigh throws my data off.

And also have noticed that wroth my 6Dasher it worked fine, then all sudden stopped reading shots. Had to stop and re align everything. Even though nothing changed. So not surewhat was going on

How far away would you estimate the other shooter is and how far would they need to be so as to not be recorded? I'm inclined to buy one of these and phase out the magnetospeed but if it's setup is too picky, I'm going to pass until that issue is resolved.

The times I have had issues they were about 4 ft on either side. The other day someone about 10 ft away was shooting and it didn't pick theres up.

It is easy to set up and less than a minute you can be shooting and recording data. I like mine a lot and wouldn't sell it. I might call them this week and ask if they have any info for me. I have one of the first one that came out.
