LABRADAR Testing

My Labradar arrived the Thursday evening and got it set up and finally made it to the range this morning. So me and a buddy got to test it out a little.

First thought: So simple to set up and was shooting in less than 2 minutes. No calling the line safe and walking down to set up the chronograph. And even with the stand the unit is very lite weight

Tested it on his rifle first and he was shooting 68gr bullets in his 6. After the first two shots not registering I went back in the settings and adjusted the sensitivity to setting 1. I also adjust the bullet offset to 12". Vs 6 from the initial setting. He fired a shot and it worked like a charm. Then further into shooting we had 3-4 shots give error message that it could not detect projectile. But then it worked on the others :-\

Then I set up with my rifle shooting 105gr bullets and it picked up all 9 shots and worked great.

**This is just initial thoughts of the unit. Need more bullets down range to test and get use to how this unit works at it's best. But overall it is great. Did exactly what it said it would do. Very easy to set up, displays results quickly, no wires or rails to set up, and no paper to print out to try to understand. The screen is very easy to read and see

So Andrew, glad you finally got your LabRadar, I assumed that both rifles were 6 mm with the only difference being the bullet weight i.e. 68gr. Vs. 105gr. Any idea what cause the errors?

No idea. Strange. It picked up about 12 straight then missed 3 shots. Then picked up the rest. It gave an error message

And also with the unit sitting about 6" away from side of barrel it failed to register. Actually shut the unit off and it restarted itself. It did this three shots, sor moved it about 12" off.

Thanks! It’s interesting that moving the unit 12” (I presume 12” off to the side) made it worked better than 6” off. Was that a suggestion as per the documentation?

The setting states 6" will provide more precise readings. Says to place within 18". I may call Tom and see how good their cussing service is. Says to have unit behind muzzle. Which I did.

Maybe I could move further back from muzzle (closer to shooter) but leave it 1-6" offset of barrel. Just little bit more to avoid muzzle blast

We had it just behind muzzle and just off to side at first. Then moved further offset and adjusted setting to the 12" projectIle offset vs. 6" that we initially had.

Try moving it back like to the side of the rest, with larger braked rifles we moved it back just of our elbow and got 100% readings but to much concussion will cause a missed read at least on the early units.

I talked to Labradar. Was helpful and took time to answer my questions . So we will try it out again tom

I received mine today and will familiarize myself with the controls, etc. tomorrow. Hopefully, I will be able to test it Wednesday and again on Saturday, using my 6BRX with 105 gr Scenars.

Any insights from you conversations with Labradar would be highly appreciated!

Bob

Be sure to have unit behind muzzle about 6" or more. Be sure to aim it at target. Be sure sensitivity is on level 1. Be sure to enter proper bullet weight. Try unit 6" offset from barrel too. And TX setting to standard

Well - Failure

The new Labradar will not arm (turn on the transmitter). I receive an error message.

“Arming error. radar calibration indicates the transmitter frequency is not in acceptable range. Please contact support.”

I have emailed support and will call them tomorrow. Off to the races, I guess.

I will post the response.

I called Labradar, not really expecting the phone to be answered, but it was.
The tech had forwarded the land line to his cell. He was very nice and apologetic.

When I told him the error message, he was surprised and led me through some basic troubleshooting, which he honestly said would not likely be successful. This included various transmitter frequency settings. He was right. It wasn't successful.

He will email me a UPS return label and will either send me a new unit or repair this one. He already had an idea of what the issue was, but discouraged me from trying to fix it myself (which I wasn't going to do, anyway).

He promised me a 24 hour turn around once he receives the unit.

I was impressed with the customer service and the forthrightness of the tech, as well as his knowledge of the product.

We'll got to test unit again today. 308 win using 200gr bullets. Every shot recorded. This was my set up today. Unit was close to barrel. But we'll behind muzzle.

This thing is awesome so far

I received my new replacement Labradar today. It arms properly. I will hopefully do testing at the range on Thursday.

The customer service I received was prompt, friendly, and professional. Future customers should have no qualms in this regard.

All in all, just a bump in the road.
