LABRADAR MAX FPS

Finally got a chance to start work up of a hunting load with my 257 STW and 92gr. Hammer bullets. I had been using TTSXs but lost one deer last year and had a very poor blood trail with no exit wound on a 90 yard hit on a second deer.

Long and short of it is that the Labradar, as advertised, will not track and record when velocity gets much over 3900 fps. However, it will track over 3900 at times. I have obtained readings of 3907 and 3917. Each of these readings were the first shot after cutting the unit on. Each time it would not track any shots over 3900 after tracking the first shot. I will see if this is just an anomaly or if it is possible to track one shot of 3900+ after powering the unit on and off.

I talked to the manufacturers and they say that the 3900 limit is a hardware limitation, not a programming limitation. I took that to mean that to increase the fps ability would require more sophisticated (and expensive$$$$$) hardware.

I had no problems tracking the load up to 3900. Ultimately, if you want to develop loads for anything over 3900 fps, look elsewhere.

Dusty, Speed Kills. .257 STW at 3950 fps shoots really flat. Set up right- aim at hair out to 450 yds. My favorite deer hunting set up bar none.

I developed some 22-250 loads with 40 grain V-max running over 4000 FPS that work real nice. You have to go where the load takes you on the target regardless of what other people believe. If the best load is 4000+ FPS, then so be it.

I do not own a LabRadar. No need for what I do. I have a very inexpensive chronograph that I pull out from time to time when I'm curious.

I have one. Built it back in my 25cal days, must have been right around the time the 7stw came out because i made my brass from 8mm mag. Made some for a buddy with a 7stw at the same time and we discussed how nice it would be to have the correct headstamp

I took two more cold bore shots today. The Labradar measured the first one at 3910. I powered it off and back on anthem took the second shot. It measured 3910 again. So, I don’t think this is an anomaly. It seems as though you can get one measure over 3900 when you first power the unit up. After that it’s a no go.
