LA or SA?

I have a long action (30-06) on order but can change it for a short action (308) as a donar rifle. I ordered before I picked a 6mmBR as my round of choice. Would you just keep the long action or switch to the short action? I ordered a Stevens 200.

Well, I first thought two BR's would fit in a long action. Took out a long action Rem, an 06 cartridge and two BR cartridges. Two BR's are way longer than a single 06 cartridge.

Looking at the action with a single BR cartridge in the gate is silly looking but not all THAT silly looking.

I surely would go short but if long is what you have then long is what it is. Now don't ask me about using a magazine.

I use a long action. A Barnard P action.

I have a .308 that I had built on a long action. It seems to shoot well. I don't think that a short action is enough different from a long action to make a difference. The barrel and the chamber are the most important part of the build. A short action does afford a slightly shorter bolt throw. But, again, I don't think the difference is significant.

In the "old" days, all Savage actions were long actions. They seemed to perform pretty well.

Well, the Remington 40XB's are all short actions (including the .30-06, .308 and 6mm BR) and they do exceptional!

I had a savage model 112 that I put together in 6br.. It was absolutely awesome.. Also put a 30br barrel on it.. It was awesome.. Also put a 22br barrel on it. It was awesome.. Also put a 6.5X47 barrel on it. It would have been awesome If I would have spent the time learning to shoot/load it..

That being said I'm now getting back to it. I just bought a savage 111 in 300 winmag. Gonna put a 30-06 barrel on it for my big game hunting. Buying another stock to build a target set up on it. Buying a 6br barrel to put on it now.. I love doing barrel changes.. Some/few told me that the long action may flex some with barrel weight. My barrels for those target calibers were all way long and way heavy.. They were awesome.. My opion is that modell 200 would be purfect.. go for it...
