L.R. Mauser action for 6br ??

Howdy: Is there a large ring F.N. type action worthy of making a medium weight 6br out of. I have a incredible walnut stock blank and simpy must build something for it.

The large ring would be a little long for the caliber but Im sure you could sweet talk someone into the job. I dont think Mausers are bad action at all. If you true the receiver face up and lap the lugs and the barrel work and bedding is all done right usually the rifles will shoot pretty well. There not going to win any matches by any means but they do shoot well.

Thanks Mike! Yea I know it will work, I guess I'm trying to get ideas as to a commercial action, don't really want to do a military action, did my last one in the 60's, to much work to do. Looking to find the best commercial action out there, that will work in my stock, havn't done much homework yet. Thought one of you guys might know, and save me some research. If I were smart I would just sell the stock, but it's just to incredible to not make something out of. Why not a 6br!! Thanks again!! Ted

go with a Remington or Savage short action... you'll be miles ahead in the long run.... much better resale value down the road too..

The mauser will never be worth a fraction of what you'll have in it and more important won't shoot with either the Rem or the Savage...

Don't be too fast to "shoot" down a Mauser.
If you use an M-48, sometimes called a Yugo, you'll find it has a shorter receiver. The bolt is also shorter by about 1/8". They are pretty cheap to find at pawn shops, Numrichs, etc. You can sell the parts off of it on Ebay and just about get the receiver for free.

I screw on a solid scope mount, rail actually) across the top of the receiver to stiffen it. Works great. Mind you I would not put it against my Viper Drop-port, then again I didn't spend $1k on it either. The bolt face will have to be enlarged for the magnum cartridge
Other then that, make sure you square the shoulders, lap lugs, square the bolt face, tune your load, etc. you probably know the drill by now. I usually use a heavier barrel contour, #5 at least and often a #7. I've got 2 - 270's, a 7mm mag, & a .243 that all shoot 5 shot groups that are less then 3/4" at 100 yards on a regular basis. 1/2" is not unusual.

I also admit to having an ego, the Mauser action stands out like a '69 z-28 Camaro. Modern cars still can't outrace it, rarely out corner it,ignoring the gas mileage :-)and the car just looks good. For either one,I don't recall seeing a person looking at one without a smile on their face!
Holler if you need any help.
Good Luck!

Did you ever think of using the FN action, after accurizing) with a barrel block, you probably have enough stock width to do it and perhaps it will be competitive and might even surprise a lot of people who don't believe it can be. You will have to figure the weight restrictions you might have,if any). There are a lot of barrel blocks available out there or you can make your own. You may have to bush the firing pin hole and turn your firing pin down to .062" especially if its a military action. Your bolt face is probably the right size, you can make a loading plate to fill the magazine in,or use a score high) and do some work on the claw extractor so it will feed properly without damaging the case rims. After market triggers aren't too bad either.
