L.E. Wilson bushing in Redding die.

Any experiences using L.E. Wilson bushings in Redding neck sizing dies? I'm having difficulties getting a bushing from Redding, can I use a Wilson bushing?

Actually I prefer the Wilson bushings because they are flat across both ends, the Redding bushings have the size stamped in which creates a little raised area so that you have to install the bushing with stamped end down to get it to ride straight in the die. With Wilson bushings this is not a consideration, you can install either end down and it will run straight.

Been using Wilson bushings in Redding competition (sleeved) dies for about a year. I haven’t noticed any ill effects. Runout is <0.001” and didn’t notice any disadvantages compared to the TiN bushings.

Thanks for the great help!! I ordered the bushing today, the web site says the bushing I need is in stock. Now if I would just get the seating die, I'd be in business.

Yes you can.

All bushings share a universal size and are interchangeable. Redding, Wilson, Whidden, and RCBS bushings can all be used in the same dies.

Not necessarily so. I recently bought some Whidden bushings and they are longer than the Wilson bushings I use. I got confirmation that my situation wasn't unique.

Not sure what measurement you mean...I’ve heard Whidden QC had been lacking lately. If talking about the height of the bushing then I don’t see how that would make any difference. Different diameters would mess a person up tho.

I have all bushings mentioned and they seem to work well in different dies. Of course most all of my dies are either Redding and Whidden with a couple Forster sets I use on varmint rifles.

Height. Length. Same thing here because the only dimensions left are ID and OD.

In my case the length did matter as I referenced in my post above. My bushing wouldn’t float as it should. Hornady could have done a little better on this Beggs die dimensionally. They didn’t need to cut it so close in that area where .010 difference in height between a Whidden bushing and a Wilson bushing would be the difference between no go and go.

Well as soon as I read the word “Hornady” the real problem was identified. Lol ;)

I hear ya. Only choice available for a Beggs cartridge unless I end up going custom. I’m told these dies work real good though. My problem was easy enough to solve. The non-standard bushing dimension is in fact still a real thing though.

Yeah I’ve heard of people having more and more problems with their dies not being dimensionally correct as well. Not sure what’s going on with that company but I hope they turn it around soon. I’ve been lucky to have really good luck with Whidden so far
