krieger Or Lilja Barrel??

Re: kreiger Or Lilja Barrel??

Take your pick, both are good barrels. My 30BR is a 17tw Lilja and my 6BR is a Krieger both are capable of shooting .1's

Re: kreiger Or Lilja Barrel??

Given the choice, I would always choose a cut rifled barrel over a button barrel. Never had a bad Krieger, never had a Lilja. A buddy has a few and is done with them. You either love them or hate them!

Re: kreiger Or Lilja Barrel??

Given a choice, I would choose a Broughton Canted Land Barrel over either.
Second choice would be Kreiger. Never had a bad one from Either. Broughtons
are Usually a little faster and Clean up quicker.

Just an Opionion based on my experience.

Re: kreiger Or Lilja Barrel??

All other things equal (and they seldom are), I would choose a cut rifled barrel over a button rifled.

Re: kreiger Or Lilja Barrel??

Never owned a Lilja, but I do have a Kreiger that is very accurate. My vote is for Kreiger. I owned a Broughton before the Kreiger and I like the Kreiger better. My opinion is based on only 1 Broughton and 1 Kreiger so take it for what's worth.

Re: kreiger Or Lilja Barrel??

I have a lilja on my 6x47 Lapua never had a problem with it better part of 850-900 rounds down the tube still three patch clean up.

Flip a coin. You cant make a bad pick here. Both are great barrels. I have both and they are both tack drivers.

Re: kreiger Or Lilja Barrel??

My first 2 custom barrels were Lilja (7MM STW, and 6-284) based on Neil Jones recommendation as that is pretty much all he works with. They both shot lites out, cleaned nicely and I had total confidence in them, I just took posession of my first Krieger based on my shooting partners success with his, but have yet to shoot/break it in as we are in heavy winter still. I am amazed at how easy his Krieger cleans up, and its a literal tack driver. To make a long story short, you can pick one or the other and you will be happy with your choice.

I have a Krieger HV in 6br 14 tw 26" finish. It is the smoothest barrel I have seen. It cleans in 3-6 patches. uncanny. I also have a .224 Lilja, chambered in .223 rem match 8 tw 26" (bolt gun). It shoots really well. You can't go wrong with either-they are both expensive hand finished products. There are also many other great bbl makers to chose from. Depends on what is available & how much lead time you have... ;) good luck...!

It depends on the caliber.....

.17 Lilja

.20 PacNor

.22 Krieger

.243 Krieger

I asked two prominent gunsmiths "What barrel would you use if it was YOUR personal rifle"?

These were the answers i got from BOTH of them...

what is the difference between a cut barrel and a button barrel? Also what would be the advantages to using a Palma barrel over regular barrel?

I've got a few of each and a Shilen. My experience with them has been as follows.

The Shilen began to shoot great groups after I had a hundred or so rounds through it. Still shoots VERY well. Clean up is easy.

The Kreigers that I've got took a good while to break in using Kreiger's recommendations, but when that was finnished they shoot VERY well and clean up is easy. Took a LOT of patches to get it broke in, but it was worth it. ;)

The Liljas were the easiest to break in and began cleaning easily within 10 to 20 rounds. They began to show very good groups right away and they shoot VERY well and cleanup is still easy.

Your choice of gunsmith and his skill & performance in putting it on will make a lot more difference in accuracy than one of the above barrels over the other. Then of course you will have to your part in it too. :) Just my humble opinion. WD

I don't think you can go wrong with Kreiger.

I just reading a couple articles in Varmint magazine, both guys used Kreigers for their .17's 1-9 twist and both shot very well .

Kreiger 6mm ,6.5 and .30 hold more than a few records.

Just an Opinion based on my experience.

Our recent experience has been just the opposite. Both Broughton and Krieger can make very fine barrels, and Jason has a Broughton that has been superb. Whidden like Broughtons. But our last Broughton for a project was a bad fouler and very slow. Interior condition was disappointing too.

I've been a member here since 2005 not alot of post.

I think it's a shame when someone post like Forum Boss about a barrel they got without telling us what Broughton did about this "bad fouling very slow and interior condition was disappointing barrel".
