Krieger Contours

I am considering a new build and am contemplating contours. I plan to use a Krieger in a #6, 5, or possibly their Rem Varmint contour. I am leaning towards a Mcmillan a5 stock. Does anyone have a rifle with a Krieger in any of these three contours that they would be willing to share a picture of? The stock in the photo is not important, i just want to get an idea of the barrel contour. I have studied the measurement diagrams of the contours but would really like to see them. The A5 has a huge forearm. I have an 1.350 barrel in one and it does not look too big. A #5 would look very odd in an A5. I would look at the A3 or game Warden for those barrels sizes. If this is a hunting rifle, I can see no reason to ever want to go heavier than a #5.

Thanks. It is going to be a hunting rifle that is shot mostly from bags and in box blinds. I have a couple HS Precision varmint stocks that have a 2.5" wide forearms and i like the feel of the wider forearm in my hand and on the bags. I do not have any mcmillans and have only their website and photos to go from. Would be great to handle a few different models but thats not possible. As far as the contour, i am currently hunting with two Rem Varmint contours as well as a heavy varmint. I want to go a little heavier than the Rem Varmints which is why i am looking at the #6.

Ok, makes sense. I would still look at the A3, it will take a large barrel and the drop in the butt is nice for a rear bag vs the hook in an A5. Of course if you can use a rest why not just go to a 3" wide f-class style?

Since you are hunting from box blinds, you most likely will not be shooting multiple shots in rapid succession. The lighter contours will shoot just as well as the heavier ones. I realize that you won't be packing the rifle around all day, but I still would use nothing heavier than the varmint. I've grown fond of the #3 contours for hunting. Admittedly, I probably carry mine more. In a hunting rifle I can't see that I'm giving up any accuracy with the # 3 contour.

I agree with this. I still expect 1" 3 shot groups at 300 yards with a #3 or #4 contour.

A McMillan's BDL will handle a #6 with no problem. I have one with a Krieger 5 1/2. I have LOTS of meat left on the forend. It's also a real comfortable stock to me. Mcmillan says up to #5 on their website but I have seen a #6 in one and like I said mine is a #6 on the back end and a #5 on the muzzle.
