Krieger Barrel Contour and Bore Diameter

I'm building a 6x47 Lapua 600 yard BR rifle, 17 lbs., to shoot in the IBS or NBRSA light varmint matches. Krieger offers a 29" HV barrel, 7 lbs., w/ a muzzle diameter of .900 inches and in the 6mm,1-8 twist and 4 grooves), a choice of .2360 or .2370 bore diameter.

Are the BR shooters using a straight cyclinder or taper HV barrel w/ a muzzle diameter larger than .900 inches?

Which bore diameter, .2360 or .2370, should I use? I plan to shoot the 105 - 107 bullets.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Stan,

As to barrel contour one thing you must consider is the total weight of the package which includes rifle, scope, rings, etc. If you plan on using a Nightforce you'd better stick with a HV contour. In fact adding the weight to the stock may give you a better balanced rig rather than going to a big heavy straight contour which may not ride the bags as well being muzzle heavy.

.236-.237????????????
If you do a forum search I queried top shooters and smiths on this very subject with results split about even.
Jackie Schmidt had great results using a .237 as have I with the Berger 105 VLD's in a .060 freebore .269 neck chamber. Others swear by .236.
If you are considering using any Lapua bullets they run small in the diameter department and may not work well in a .237. Bullets of American manufacture will be fine. Another thing to consider is where are you buying your barrel? If from Bruno's your only choice will be .237 since that's all they order from Kreiger to keep it simple.

Hopefully this helps somewhat.

WAS is the key word...too rich for my blood at 50 cents each :,

Nasty old scenars with the same load yield the same velociy and equal or better groups at 500yds ;)

Randy Robinett,BIB bullets) recommends the .237 barrel if you are going to shoot his bullets.

I built a 6 BR DX,ack imp with long neck) with a Kreiger 1.2" tapered .850 that is 28" and it gives nothing up to anything bigger. More importantly, with a laminated Bruce Baer Edge/MBR stock,4" longer Edge front with Tooley MBR rear with 1/2" flat on bottom) and a Nightforce, the total gun weighs 16.4 lbs. It is legal in NBRSA, IBS and PA.

No muzzle brake is needed with most of the 6 IMO.

I have a Krieger 1:7.5, bore is .236 and it is a 1.25 x 30" str.
chambered in a 6 Dasher with brake it weights 16.8lbs. Barrel was fluted by L. Baity after being chambered. It has a McMillan Tooley/MBR stock and NF 12x42BR series scope with Kelby rings and jewel bases. Rem 700 SA. With out flutes its weight was 18.0 lbs. With 100 rds. of brass being formed and using 105 bergers the preliminary loads are yielding groups in the .2's at 100yds.

edited my bore and groove diameter posted on page 1...dug up my invoice to confirm and I was off a hair,or maybe 1/50th of a hair :D )
