Krieger 6mm .236 or .237

I would like to know the difference, pros and cons) in using the .236 and .237 6mm barrels? I'm putting together a new rifle and not sure which to order. Thanks

The search function is your friend. This question comes up every other week. Short answer, .237 for close range and flat base bullets, .236 for long range and boatails. If it's a Bartlein, Frank says it doesn't matter, and you can't argue with success.

.237' is all I've used in the 6mm's I've built except for one. He's yet to shoot it but, I bet it'll be fine. This topic has come up more times than not and always ends up in a split. I've spoken with Frank at Bartlien several times and read his post concerning the same. The general consensus is, there is no measurable difference in accuracy.

I'f I were inclined to shoot the Lapua Scenars though, I'd order the .236' as they are smaller in diameter than the Bergers.

If the one rifle I've built using a .236' bore shines like no other, I'll be trying one for myself. Good luck with your choice.

The barrel that I have coming is a Krieger 6mm-1 in 8 twist with a .237 bore, chambered for 6br. Does anyone know how well this barrel will shoot the Hornady 105-AMax as opposed to a .236 bore?

Another question, is there any consensus out there on whether or not moly coated bullets of the same bullet type prefer on avergage a tighter/looser bore? Where are the experts here?:)

varminater,

Your fishing for answers that you, or anyone else, can't or won't know, till you shoot and find out for yourself. There is hardly ever a definitive yes or no answer.

I just did a 237 6br 8 twist kreiger on a Savage right bolt left port and it shoots awesome so far, first 50 I put through it, it shot as good as any of my customs. I just loaded 30 grs of varget with 105 amaxs.

I would recommend .236 bore. If your going to shoot the Lapua 105grn Scenars this is the bore diameter you want.

The reason there is an ongoing debate on the .236' vs .237' issue is because there is no clear answer, pick one and run with it. I have shot both and I don't really see a difference. I think it more depends on whether you get a 'hummer' barrel or not as opposed to whether the bore dimension is .236' vs .237'. People on this forum also keep repeating some published information to suggest that the Lapuas need a .236' bore because they are under diameter, but I currently have about 2000 Lapua 105's and the lots I have sure are not undersized, so be careful on what you accept as fact. Just because someone had an undersized lot of Lapua 105's and published information to suggest that Lapuas are under diameter, does not mean all Lapua 105's are under diameter and the ones I have are not under diameter and shoot well in a .237' bore.

I ordered my barrel yesterday. After talking to the folks at Krieger I ordered the .236. They said to use the .236 for the long range bullets and the .237 with the flat base lighter bullets. I am having it twisted 1 in 7.5 for the 115s. Thanks
