I have had this barrel sitting around for about a year, and finally got around to putting it on a Savage model 12 single shot action. I did a ladder with it last week to confirm the 32.5 grain of Varget load the seller told me worked best for him in the barrel.,Also noticed john708 settled on this same load) The barrel only had about 250 rounds through it. The ladder confirmed that 32.5 would be about right. I loaded 12 rounds,4 foulers) at the lands, eight 10K off and eight 10K in. We have had record rain here, something like 24 out of 30 days of rain), so when I saw the rain stop and sky lighten a little, I took a chance and ran outside, I shoot at my house) set up at 100 yards and started my test hoping not to get caught in a down pour. The 4 foulers went into a .152 group subtracting the .243 bullet diameter, the next 4 went into a group .270, the next 4 a .363, then I fired 2 groups as the rain turned into a pretty good drizzle. These were the ones off the lands. The first group measured .134 and the next one was .121. The rain really started coming down, I was under no shelter, but just wanted to know how the into the lands groups would work so I could load a bunch of whatever I needed for the next time I had a day off. The first group opened up to in the .4’s and the last group about an inch. I know the rain didn’t help these last 2 groups, but I was getting to 25 straight bullets fired and figured the barrel might need to be cleaned. I was firing at a fast pace to and it was starting to heat the barrel up pretty good.
This is the target minus the bottom 2
This is the 2 10K off targets. I'll seat them here for now.
I couldn’t be happier with this barrel and cartridge. It’s my first Krieger and I can’t imagine that it will be my last. Can’t imagine this will be my last 6BRX either. The action has the standard 1.5 pound accutrigger, feels like 7 LB compared to my 6 oz. guns) and it has not been trued. Shot off a plastic folding table I got from home depot and a used a Caldwell fire control rest that the stock doesn’t fit snug in, and a protektor leather bag on a pine block for the rear. I used a Bell & Carlson Medalist with the sling swivel studs still in. Used a Mueller Eradicator scope. When I got in the house and dried everything off, took my Sightron S3 8-32x off another gun and put in on this one.
Specs:
-Savage Model 12 Single Shot action
-Krieger 28†Stainless 6BRX barrel
-Mueller Eradicator 8.5-25X scope
-Bell & Carlson Medalist Stock
