Knife Sharpening

It's easy to quickly get a uniformly beveled edge close to sharp using the Lansky. Razor sharp requires a little stropping finesse. A "narrow" belt width leather doesn't do it for me, as I need a wider surface to achieve maximum contact. I found a sheet of corrugated cardboard, perhaps with a little Flitz, works great for stropping.

How do make your paper wheel? Do you run blade over the paper wheel first or last?

I bought it from grizzly tools. The paper wheel is first. I put different grit compounds on it. The paper wheel can be cleaned and roughed up with a bastard file pretty easy and prepped for different compound.

That’s a great idea muleman. How big of diameter do you make the disks?
I hate to to admit it but I carry a cheap folder that takes the replacement razor blades for the hay twine and wrap.
The small disk is around four inch depending grinder size. I also have one for bigger knives that goes on a six inch grinder

Well. I’m gonna go ahead and recommend the Tormek T-4. They include bandages in the box for good reason. Very fast too. About five minutes to make perfect a knife with chips and dings that had neglected about 5 years. Surgically sharp. Not perfect, but awfully damn good!

I have a $4k knife grinder and a nice TSPROF sharpening system. unless you plan on making $$ sharpening it's hard to justify a Tormek. The Ken Onion Work Sharp is a great choice. MUCH MUCH better than a 1x30 HF grinder. Mainly because the WS machine is variable speed. Along with a lot of nice features.

Sounds like you have one of Wuertz's knife grinders. Pretty awesome unit. Wish I had one.

I did have a tw-90 made by Travis. Incredible machine but I did not like the platen. I currently have a Wilmont TAG-101 with 6 various attachments, Beaumont rest, and 2 larges fixed work rests.

Similar concept as Spyderco Sharpmaker or Crock Sticks. Looks to work ok. However, the spring noise alone would drive me nuts.
