King Richard Schatz goes 2,000 yd at the DOME

I doubt I'll ever shoot well enough to be called "king" but I'm building up a 284 and I'm curious, how much MV and barrel length you were using to get to 2,000?

I'm hoping to get hits at a mile.

Do you think it's possible off of bags? I don't have a fancy rest.

Thanks for reinforcing my ELR aspirations.
My 284 shehane was running 2730ish while forming and I had no problems hitting at 1750 yards. Actually made more hits with it that I did my 375 that day

Only time was in Montana. I shot one mile and 2500 yards. Scope and dope was right on but I had no more elevation in that scope. But I had another scope with more MOA in it and I put it on that night to try 3000 yards the next day. But the wind was so bad I did not attempt 3000, but we did break a rock at one mile int that wind. We had two tents tied together and the tents tied to the trailer it was so windy. But did manage to break a two foot rock at 1762 yds.

I’ve got an old atacr on mine and zeroed completely bottomed out and 10.75 moa high at 100. I can dial 126moa with that setup. Using all that and the reticle that puts me around 3000 in current weather

3000 sounds like fun. Let's go try it!!

I’m working on it! All the brass is formed in my snipetac now so once I get off the road, I’ll get a load and give you a shout

I haven't gotten serious with ballistics calculations but when I put the 184 Berger in to JBM Ballistics with MV around 2,800-2,850, it always says It's going transsonic right before it gets to the mile.

Do Berger's handle that without going off course or is the JBM Ballistics calculation pessimistic?

I have a Kestrel but I haven't upgraded it to Elite software and I haven't tried putting a 284 in to Applied Ballistics yet.

I was using 175 eldm bullets out of a 1-8 barrel. The extra spin is supposed to help them transistion to subsonic batter.

I plan to shoot Berger 184s or go to 180 if they don't work for me or maybe Hornady A-tip if they start making it for 7mm.

I also ordered a barrel with 1 in 8.5" twist three groove rifling.

Should I consider asking for a switch to 1 in 8" 5R rifling?

I saw reports of people doing well with 1 in 9" twist and 184s so I thought 1 in 8" would just cost velocity.

What do you think?

The 1-8 won’t cost you any real velocity. They’ll all run in a 1-9 but the faster twist is supposed to help them transition better.
