Kimber of Oregon 84M safety issue

I decided to completely strip down my kimber 84m & through clean. Certainly wish I would have left the trigger mechanism alone. The safety slide cam is cupped to accept the "plunger rod" that connects to the trigger. but the rod does not snap into place but rather rests there. I tried a bit of grease and such but am not able to secure this the rod in place well inserting the trigger mechanism into place.

Of course, Kimber America has no information to offer.
