Kelbly Kodiak Opinions Please!

Aloha All. Anyone with some experience with the kodiak action?

Looking at building a mid range 223 FTR / trainer rifle. Down here in Hawaii we are limited in ranges so wanted to have a rifle I could potentially use for 300/600 FTR and as a trainer during normal range day.

Looking at the Kodiak because of the repeater action format and because I can order barrels without sending the entire rifle out. Mahalo in advance!

Don't need a repeater for ftr, everything is single loaded.

I have stolle big bore panda's- and like them very much. no reason the Kodiak would not work well.

Thanks appreciate your feednack! With gun laws here in Hawaii, getting new rifles is kind of a pain, so I wanted a repeater action to serve as a 223 trainer and my occasional FTR rig.

Hi in Hawaii!! I have a Kodiak. It's a very nice action. For the repeater to function properly, make sure you get the flat bolt face, not the coned. Good luck! Josh

I had Kelbly's build me 2 Kodiak action-ed rifles; One repeater, one single shot. I wanted the ability to swap out everything between each other; Flat bolts(.223 & .308) and coned bolts(also .223 & .308) swap between the two actions, Barrels of both calibers to swap between actions. Kelbly's succeeded in producing 2 outstanding rifles. I have the option to shoot single shot or magazine feed with any combination I want.

The reality now; I almost NEVER use the repeater action. I should've saved money and just bought the single shot and a whole bunch of barrels. The repeater action makes me a tad too heavy to make weight for FTR. Plus, as was stated previously, I'm not allowed magazine feed for FTR, so the repeater action is unnecessary.

A very wise buddy of mine had told me to just build a match rifle(single shot) with everything in the build focused on just that. I had to go and try to build something that would "do everything". That was actually a waste of money as I have several other rifles that are great "Field" rifles.

All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to do a Kodiak again.
Respectfully,
Doug

I bought my kodiak used from a friend.
I wouldn't trade it for anything. I also have an Atlas, wouldn't trade that either. You might say I'm a Kelby fan.

Here is my Kodiak ,,RB-LP ,,90xx,,It is the rifle that I shoot the most and swap bbls and scopes around all the time,,,,It is a .473 bolt face with ejector,,,it has a Jewell 2 oz trigger with top safety (like a Rem 700) like required to meet the rules in Hunter class,,the only thing that I would do differently is get a 20 MOA rib (it wasnt available in 90'),,,go to a benchrest match and try all the port configureations available (even on other brands --Bat-Borden--etc) to see what works best for you,,,this action is a repeater with magazine box so that it is a legal "Hunter" class benchrest rifle,,,and it has coned bolt ,,contrary to what you may hear from people who never had one a cone bolt will feed ctgs out of a mag,,,and with cone bolt the feeding of the ctgs out of the mag or single shot is MUCH smoother ,,,the ctgs glide into the cone breach (like a funnel) perfectly,,,as far a ejector this one is M1 (spring plunger) in todays time the TG (static) eject is becoming widely used,,,shop around ,,,go to Kelblys and visit ,,they will help with your decesion and you will get a good education about modern competetion rifles,,,RogerXJCBkUTyRbC20sqoNjlvmA.jpg
