Kahles K1050 - Ocular movement

I just picked up a Kahles K1050. The first one was used and the sunshade was oval. I got a replacement straight from Swarovski in Rhode Island. On this one, the ocular piece has some movement in it. It screws in and out nicely, but also will wiggle up and down.

If you have a Kahles K1050, does yours do this too?

Here are 2 videos of it. It's doesn't seem like a lot of movement, but you can see how much it moves the reticle around. (My major apologies about the vertical video, I couldn't find another way to hold my phone steady.)

Think I would be sending it back, never seen a scope do that and they are on the expensive side. My 2 cents

I engaged Swarovski. Their response is that this is expected behavior.

"If you push on the diopter to deflect it, there will be a corresponding deflection of the reticle. They will deflect more the more the diopter has been extended."

They should've continued with, " we saved 2.5 cents by not including a lock feature on the ocular, aren't you proud of us"?

If it moves like that with a little pressure from a finger, I wonder what it does under a strong recoil impulse?

I checked a few of mine and they all have a small amount of play. Since it is a fast focus eyepiece, doesn't it need a small amount of play so it doesn't bind? All of these scopes work flawlessly. Are you having a problem that would make you believe something is wrong? If you don't like the fast focus design, you could go to the more traditional American style with a locking ring. March scopes use that style. Having used both, I much prefer the fast focus version.

The scope is brand new, I have no idea if I'm having a problem. Was just curious if this was expected behavior or not. You checked a few of your K1050's and they all have play?

A few years ago myself and a hall of fame shooter both tried one at the World Open in Williamsport and it did not turn out to well they were terrible. Not clear could not even see the X on the target, first and last match for them they went down the road...... jim

Apparently they make two quality levels ??
Mine have zero play, and impeccable track (no pun intended) records.
As many have said before, "we are not bird watching".
The glass is more than adequate for competition out to 1K, and really shines in the muck, but the
controls are superior to all others.
I can certainly understand that a medical compromise may cause a difference in visual opinions.
That said, the QC should not vary.

I much prefer the Weaver/NF-style locking ring. Once I set it, I never have to mess with it again. With my scopes with the "fast focus," like the NF Competition, I have mess with it every, single time I take it out to shoot it.

Great if you are passing the rifle around between different people, but I don't do that.

I wouldn’t worry about that as it is claimed to be designed in. 12-15 years ago scope manufacturers touted “one piece” construction, even into the lower end of models.

The most stringently tested, tough scope at the time by marketing descriptions was the NSX, and that front piece is threaded into the center turret. Their cutaway illustrations were very forthright about that fact. I haven’t had any durability problems with any of them.

I have a 624i which does the exact same thing. I am now concerned about it to.
I have had trouble with the rifle which has that scope on it shooting consistently recently. Never noticed it before.

As always, I listen to what the target says. it says the Kahles scopes rock. :) If anyone is looking to sell a clearly defective K1050, let me know. ;)
