I have not categorically left Alliant powders behind, prices are frightening and supply has been sketchy, so not a recipe for building a successful high precision load for my F - Open rifle. Currently I am using RL-23 and a fair amount for each cartridge, as replacement I have loaded some Magpro, VVN560 and VVN160 but none have given the velocity I am striving for (2780 - 2800fps) with my in possession 208gr ELD-M bullets. Now to the question to the collective knowledge here - Is VVN165 capable of the same velocity at approximate charge weights as the RL-23? If anyone feels there is not enough data, the rifle is chambered to
.30-06 using Kreiger #17 HV 28" screwed into a Defiance TENACITY long action.
I have one 8lb jug of RL-26 that is full and I am willing to use it all up but if availability and prices do not change, that will be all that I am going to patronize Alliant.
I also dabble in F-T/R using a .223 and have already abandoned Alliant powder with that round and gone to VVN540 for all mid range loads (600yd) using 80gr bullets.
So, if the question got lost in the noise - Is VVN165 capable of the same velocity at approximate charge weights as the RL-23?
