Just received new Nightforce with 4 year old inspection date.. thoughts?

Let me ask you a question: If you went to the store, would you buy the scope without looking at it first?

Every rifle or scope I have purchased from a Gun Show or Store, I wanted to see it first. If there is any damage to either, you would see it before purchasing. I think it's going to be pretty hard to find one with the seal intact. Most stores inspect the goods before shipping them out to make sure you are getting a quality item.

JMO, but what if you received the item, opened it up and it was damaged. No comments anywhere from the carrier that the box was damaged. Now it's your word against theirs.

Just making a point because sometimes it's best for the item to be inspected before sending it to you.

As stated before, my personal experience, NightForce will stand behind their products. I would almost bet the scope you have is flawless.

Mount it and shoot, let us know how everything works out for you.

If I may jump in.
A man pays hard earned money for a new truck and gets shipped a four year old truck that may or may not have been farted in I would not be happy..
Demo or on the shelf models need to be marked as such and discounted, man law in my book !
This is a two year old thread. Matt

I wouldn't care about the inspection date. AFAIK, the NF BR hasn't changed demonstrably in years.

The broken seal would bother me.

If there were two scopes for sale, one advertised as "NEW" the other as "NEW, open box", which would you prefer? Would you expect to pay the same?

In my mind, "NEW" means unopened, unhandled, and unused. If the seal is broken, than at least one of those things is no longer true.

Once the seal is open you have no idea what really happened with that scope. Opened to show a customer who declined to buy? Display model? Used and returned? It's why NF put a seal there in the first place.

"have to read serial number for inventory" is either a stupid business practice, or a lie.

Personally, I have purchased 6-7 NF scopes from various online vendors. ALL of them have showed up sealed in their box.

All that said, the scope is likely A-OK, and if not, I'm sure NF will get it fixed pronto.
