Just plain old shooting!

Just wondering how many of you guys have simplified your shooting as winter comes on? Competition seasons about over. Thinking about next year. But what about that rifle in the back of the closet? The one who has never been bore scoped, you don’t load ammo for on a 1k dollar scale and you only have a cheap set of dies for. How old is it? Oh you still use all the safety precautions you always did but your not looking for max loads either. Maybe your load is a few tenths off either way. Maybe you found some bullets on the shelf that are 20 plus years old. Stirs some memories don’t it. So, lm just wondering how many get off the competition kick and start the relaxing side. Maybe with kids or grandkids just plinking or teaching them the rules. Watching others have fun for a change. You know, the look on a 6 year olds face when he hits the bullseye for the first time. Just time to relax.

There is a place near me that a handful of guys ( mostly LEO ) bang steel from 50 to 1400yds with sniper type guns, both bolt and gassers all through the winter while grilling some food and keeping the burn barrel stoked. I will do that in-between getting around to spinning up a few barrels for the ppc for next year. I will play with a 300wsm, and an ar-10 in 6.5CM & ar-15 gassers all off bipods. Very casual, fun shooting burning up some meat & cigars....

Regards
Rick

Have an 1885 Winchester Low-wall in .22 Hornet. Always drag it out in the winter and shoot off-hand and sitting only to 200 yds. or so. Just to keep in practice. That and shoot more pistol which I ignore the rest of the year.

I don’t compete but I go thru serious shooting phases with my really good guns, then relax a little with “lesser” guns. I guess I’m getting old. I can’t handle too much pressure anymore.:(

I just picked this up Monday, always wanted one and a friend had this .223 Varmint Special he bought new in '86-'87 with less than 100rds through it.

Installed a Leupold 4-12x40 I had on the shelf and shot it today for the first time. Definitely fun to shoot and a lot less muzzle jump and recoil than I expected with 55g Vmax's.
