I just posted this on BR cemtral...
Got some new Lapua brass...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recieved my new Lapua brass on Wednesday...and sorted 300 by weight ...283 of them weighed 126gr..8 weighed 126.5 and 9weighed 125.5...I took the 8 heavy ones and the 9 light ones and loaded them and shot a group with the 8 in one auxiliary bull and the 9 in the other one right beside it and got two nice groups in the same area of the bull....would have been same point of impact if using the same point of aim....then when attempting to reload the fired cases the 5 of the 8 heavy cases would not go in the shellholder..!!!!!! ...I figured that the cases were soft and had swelled due to pressure....but they measured just rite....then I measured the extractor groove and found it to be shallow..,not cut deep enough by aprox .005") ---then I measured the 9 "light" ones and found them to be aprox.,on average) .005" deeper than the 283 other cases.....I havent did the water volume test but it looks like the weight difference is caused by the deep or shallow extractor grooves ....I'm bettin that there isnt one lil drop of rain water dif. between the cases..it is in the machine work....the brass seems to be of excellent quality ...the primer pockets are just a lil bit bigger ...I can seat a Federal 205 with less resistance than the lot of brass I have been using for the last 2yrs...no problemm.....Just wandering who at Lapua or kaltron/pettibone to send the ones to that I cant resize...thank good ness the all didnt have the shallow grooves....or they wouldnt be reloadable....
Should I send the cases to Lapua in Europe,,,????))) or call ....not really a compalint just want them to know of the problem and maby do a lil QC improvements....does anyone know the address or e-mail addy...
Check your extractor grooves ....just wanted to head off a problem for everyone else....Roger

You are rite on....I see the necks are not as "uniform" as in the years gone past...I dont turn em....for the bbls. I am shooting now...they all are with my new .271" nk reamer ...BUT ..I have to cull out three or four per hundred because of runout...and the big thing I have found is the flash holes are NOT round....they are "D" shaped!!!!!! I thought Lapua drilled em???? I have drilled holes that are oval, oblong, wavey, wallerd out.,,,etc,,,but never "D" shaped??? I am haveing to use a flash hole tool on em for the first time in my no turn no fuss chambers...
OOOhh well ...they are still the best,,I think..shure cant beat the wear and tear and pressure they will withstand...if they are like before...
I e-mailed Lapua about these lil anomolies ...and they said they were checking into it ...OBTW ...the lot ### is not the six didgit alpha code in the inside of the box lid....they have moved it to a neat uniform printed ## on the front of the box ...and it is seven digit ..mine is 3535105...the few that I have shot seem to work and reload well ...with the exception to the 10 out of 300 that had the extractor groove problem...hope your up coming shootin season goes well...I am going to try to make it to Sloughouse in April ...hope to see you there..Roger

Email back from Janne:

"I am no longer working for Nammo Lapua Oy. I am asking you to contact R & D manager mr. Tommi Tuuri at tommi.tuuri@nammo.fi"

I don't think that 3535105 is the lot number I think that 4PH6046 is . Its like the number I found inside a old box I have. Art

On my 6mmBR Lapua brass 3535105 looks like it was printed when the box was printed, And 4PH6046 my be the product number, then I say there is NO lot number on the box. My old box of 6.5-284 Lapua has a hand stamped EJHLSP inside the lid and I would say it's the lot number. Art

I am having a problem with primer pocket uniformer. The primer pockets looks like they are higher in the middle, so I thought that I'd use the the uniformer to clean them up. But this new brass it seems to bind in the pocket. I have never had this problem before. Has anyone else been having this problem ?? Art

The D shape looks like a burr in the flash hole and they need to be cleaned up, I'd say this is in about half of my brass. but you can't use the standard deburring tool it will make the hole to big . Sinclair has one for a .060 flash hole #DB2000.

With the hole smaller diam in the bottom ?? And when I use a primer pocket uniformer, the pockets are not the same depth, some I cut a lot out and some leave a ring in the bottom that is not cut. It's like the bottom of the pocket is high on the sides and in the middle around the flash hole .Art
