Just for fun!

I went out a couple of days ago with a friend to just get out of the house and shoot something for the fun of it.
He pick up a pistol carbine and brought it with him as well as a half dozen milk jugs filled with water just for the fun of it.

I have never seen the reason for a pistol carbine and made sure that he knew that, he just smiled and said that I have been chasing those little dime size groups to long and I needed to just shoot for the fun of it. He was right, his carbine was a Hi-Point 4095TS, (.40S&W).
The milk jugs were about 50-75yds away and less than 15 seconds later they were all exploded with clouds of water raining down and a big smile on my face, ... he was right I had forgotten about just having fun when shooting.

I have been chasing those little bug hole groups for so long that I had forgotten that I started doing this sport to have fun. And yes I now have a, ( I swore I would never have one) Hi-Point 995TS, I have more 9mm than I can count and here's a cheap way to use it up, Oh did I mention how much fun it is to just have fun once in awhile?

I still like popping horse apples with a .22, just like when I was a kid. There's a new Ruger PC carbine in the safe that hasn't been out yet. It sure needs to.
Shooting the fuzzy balls out of a sycamore tree with a 22 was fun. I think those were the first reactive targets that I shot. Left a nice ball of fuzz in the air when you hit them. good practice for squirrel hunting. Of course that was back in the days before civilization started its encroachment and the nearest neighbor was a mile or more away.

Like the contrasts in hunting. Deer: Scent control, prevalent wind direction, shot discipline , constant vigilance, gotta have the latest gear. Serious business , that deer stuff. Rabbit: load up the dogs and stomp the bushes like you did when you were a kid. Fun with the guys telling old stories...(Remember the time John almost shot his foot off at that kamikaze bunny?). LOL

Yes - Yes - Yes this is supposed to be fun.

Sometimes there is value in stepping back and saying, "Am I having fun or has this become a source of stress and anguish?" Most of us have been there, getting so wrapped up in the sport that we forget the reason why we got into it in the first place.

Best fun I ever had was shooting tin cans with my best friend at a local dump. You could do that back in the late 60's. Now, if you tried it, a SWAT team might show up.

I like busting clay birds on the ground. I line 'em up on the earthen backstop and pop 'em as fast as I can. 22, 40, 45, 9mm or 357 mag...doesn't matter. The 357 is cool though. It blows the clay birds it to a hundred little pieces in a spectacular way. Hehehehe. lots of fun.

My friend and I do some longish range shooting and then an 80-100 yard tac bay afterward for pure fun. Couple of steel targets, clays, water bottles,etc.. Pistols, revolvers, AR's, pistol carbines, and bolt guns. My favorite lately is a Ruger Gunsite Scout, 16" plastic stock. It's only 6.2 pounds. I use the iron sights and reduced loads (150gr @1600fps) and shoot it off hand as fast as I can run the bolt at steel, slower to hit small stuff on the berm. So much fun!

The wife & I got home from a motorcycle ride & found this in our backyard, Apparently our son & grandson had been there & grandson likes to shoot reactive targets, so, they went to the dollar store & got a bunch of travel size shaving creme! Looks like he really enjoyed himself!!!;)
