Just for fun gun, 6.8 SPC AR15

Well I went to the range yesterday and simply had some fun with the 6.8 spc PSA upper AR15 type receiver I bought to burn up the 200 rds of 6.8 spc I loaded up almost ten years ago to the day. After the normal sorting of things out with a new upper it started shooting pretty good and I found out that H322 still works after ten years of both being warm and being stored at just above freezing for that period of time.

This was a simple will this shoot and is the ammo still any good kind of thing at 100 yards with using just a 2" sticky dot for the target. I started at 50 yards and then went to 100 yards, after two rds it was in the dot and and put the next 7 rds in the dot as well. That was all the time I had yesterday and I called it good for the first time out with that upper.

I had planned to just pull those bullets but the complete upper was on sale at $359.00 at PSA and free shipping, (the deal of the day) there and this was a chance to see if those reloads would still shoot. It was a heck of lot more fun than sitting home pulling bullets and renewed my love for that caliber of rifle.

If you like the .277 caliber take a look, you might just have as much fun as I did.

There's alot of great choices for people who who want an AR 15 platform rifle. I've been able to shoot a 6.8SPC that if hunting is your main purpose in my opinion it's one of the better choices.

I think in some aspects (for smart shoppers) the AR 15 offers a great dealnfor shoot and scoot games, competitive longer range shooting and hunting.

I ended up with four through group trades, etc. The 11.5 twist really screwed up the barrels so they became a great dog shooter, but only with light bullets. I did have to pull my old 130 grain loads for my original 1-8 twist barrel that I traded off, not realizing that the others were all 1-11.5 twist. So be careful which twist 6.8 barrel you buy or keep.

An 8 twist .277 barrel is really fast. Most 270 win barrels are 1:10. Both my mong barrel 6.8's are 1:10.

My last 6.8 spc was 16" AR Performance barrel with 1:11.25 twist, that's the one I had loaded those bullets for. I have still have a sore back side from kicking myself every time I think about selling it

Here's the target from that first time out. I was simply trying to see if it would group and not worried about hitting the 1" dot, this was from 100yds sitting at the bench. The rest was a MTM pistol rest and using my shoulder for the rear bag.
That"s 7of 9rds. in one ragged hole, the two flyers are on me.

This is the only cartridge i shoot deer with, it's been good from 75 to 370 yards. My son got his first whitetail last year with the same gun.
