Just fell off a ladder-edit

I was removing a light from an outside wall and fell back on my buttocks from about 6 feet. Landed on grass and scored 0s from 3 judges .

Anyhoo ladder had shifted as I was coming down and lost my balance. I'm off to the emergency just as a precaution since I have a metal plate in my neck. I'm sure this doesn't help the herniated disk in my lower back that brought on the sciatica also.

Now my wife isn't going to let me climb anything above a step stool after this. Anywho this is a PSA to watch out for those home accidents, after 65 they get harder to recover from.

Edit: I'm gonna consider one of these for chores around the house.

I fell off a ladder also and broke a heel. Honestly, it took over 7 months before I could walk without pain.

My brothers brother in law was a professional roofer. Fell two stories , was in a coma for a month. After some five years , terrible pain and a bankruptcy due to medical bills , he quietly slipped away while in a drugged sleep. Not yet forty. Before this , I helped put on my roof , cleaned gutters out, and would inspect flashing etc regularly. Now I contract the company that put up our new gutters to clean them quarterly. At 67 I don’t trust my ladder skills anymore.”A man’s gotta know his limitations”.

Hope you didn't do any serious damage and get back to normal very quickly. I've fallen from the lower steps on a ladder, but never been hurt badly. My 6'4" 240 lb BIL came off a ladder 6 ft up cleaning the ceiling on a covered porch the day before his wedding and broke his coccyx. Bruised up all over his torso, but thankfully nothing life threatening. Barely mobile for the service, and months before he was really better.

I had a bad fall in December last year, missed the last step due to a change in my eyeglass's prescription. I broke my fall with my right arm, and it hurt like hell. I had it X rayed, and nothing was broken but it took me about two months before the arm felt normal again.

I was lucky and since then I've tried to remain focused on the steps keeping my head down so I can see the steps plus holding on with one hand to the railing and going slow. The highest I'll go off the ground is a step stool - no ladders for me. :(

Falls are the number one accident-related injuries for us old farts.

Hope you get a clean checkout, last trip to ER for me was a nightmare, the wife won't let me on ladders either, and Christmas decorating is soon to start here so I too have to find another way. Good Luck.

I hope you are alright buddy. My brother fell off a ladder and broke both ankles. My buddy fell of a ladder and broke his foot, broke his wrist, broke a rib. I gave my ladders to my son in law when I turned 60. Only step stools for me.

Just got out of ER, nothing on x-rays, got some meds (nothing special) just gonna have soreness for a couple of days.

This reminded me of a guy from work, retired, then one day had a bad fall off his roof, died because of it. I'm not lying when I say I've thought of him every time I've gotten on the roof and more so after today.

Thanks for your replies and concerns. After this gonna load some 75 BTHPs to try on my new steel target.

In the rain, trying to get my tools out of the water 10 feet from an extension ladder on to a driveway. broken wrist and messed up back. I keep telling the ER doctor wrist will heal do soothing for my back????Crickets

Ya have to be careful! I fell off a ladder, shattered both heals and spent 9 months in a wheel chair. On top of that, they put in plates and screws, it got infected and that almost killed me. I’m not allowed on ladders anymore!
Infections suck! I don't mean to hijack. I have MS and my medicine is(was) an injectable. I've had infections in several injection sites, the worst was this September. My right abdomen became infected, red, swollen and SORE! Oral antibiotics didn't work. A trip to the ER and I was admitted, requiring surgery to drain the abscess. Luckily it was not septic and not MRSA. Currently recovering at home with a wound vac. I guess it gives me time to check for components!
