Just about out of reloading supplies! Now what?

Strategies:

  • Get the personal details of everybody on this site who claims that they have 10 years supplies or more, and rob them.
  • Watch for death notices of shooters & offer the widows the opportunity to clear all that nasty explosive stuff out of their house.
  • Buy a set of golf clubs .....
A round of 18 holes near me is close to $60 bucks now. I think bird watching would be a better option as at least you can make use of your spotting scope....

The reality is you just cannot shoot.

Easy for many to talk of using their experienced connections and industry to find some components. Most do not have that experience and will find nothing. Powder of near any kind is not available anywhere reasonable right now. Even the Lovax/Shooters World powders are gone.

Sure some have the connections or luck to find something to shoot with. That is not helping many like you that do not have the connections and cannot make the major effort to seek some kind of connection.

Primers??? What primers?

Now look above at my first sentence. Others will soon join the non-shooting group if this keeps up. Historically this has not been the case but today - future projections do not put components in your grasp now when you need them. There are consequences to elections.

Well said CaptainMal!
I see all these new rifles, scopes and shooting supplies on the daily bulletin but just can't get exited about buying anything. What the hell is the use if you can't buy powder or primers. Until supplies start coming back I just don't see why anyone would drop a lot of money on this stuff as it's useless without reloading components. I did see that Federal will now load custom ammo for shooters. Can you imagine the cost of that? I'm sure you're buying new brass every time. Maybe that's what all this is coming to!

Earlier this, paid a visit to a local dealer. Figured I would grab a couple cans of powder and a calendar. Oops, brain cramps, Remington died, so no calendar, a 40 plus year tradition gone. The powders I was interested in gone. Primers have out of stock for quite a while at this shop. Hoarders must have swooped in to grab the powders to re-sell on Gun Broker or future gun shows. Due they still have them? Or has the China virus killed those also. Don't cry for me, I'm in good shape. The long term weak link in my inventory would have to be bullets. Starting to feel a little sorry for dealers like Precision Reloading, there supply appears to be almost zero. Was going to buy a 30-06 small base body sizing die. To my surprise, they are also on Back Order. Have to wonder in 2020 how many people are buying those things.

There must be a lot of new shooters here. That is a good thing. That said, reloading supplies, ammo, and firearms have had supply and demand issues for years. What we are seeing now is TEMPORARY.

For those that have been caught short for the first time, welcome to the club. Most of us were caught short once and since then have planned ahead. It's smart to build a 1-2 year supply, especially if you are a competition shooter.

Also, keep your eyes open and be on the lookout. I doubt anyone here has any "industry contacts" that give them special insider deals.

I was talking to Jim Borden one day and asked him to recommend a camera and lense. Made his actions look real cheap..
Yes! Run out and buy a D5 or D6 Nikon, just the body not the lens........be ready to drop 3K or so and that is just a start.

When I run out of supplies, I'll probably start fishing again. Can be just as rewarding as a group in the "1's" and just as aggravating as number 5 going wherever the hell it wants to.

HUNTING for 2 months 2 shots 2 deer. No new equipment costs. I reloaded 50 rounds at the beginning of the season. Looks like I have enough ammo to last me till I'm 100 years old at this rate [smile]
Yep. I got 6 hunting rounds left from the 25 I loaded years ago. Should get me through three more seasons if I am frugal.
