Caldwell never made a 1"x5acme.

Sorry, but you were contacted by Stuart and that is what you said way back then BUT.....

Caldwell - The Rock BR 1000 Yard Model Part #171209, Lot # 12/17/09 A

From Page 8 "The Rock BR 1000" Assembly, Care and Usage Instructions ..... Bill of Material.

Item #6 Elevation Ram 1-5 ACME Part No. 1009193
Item #7 Elevation Wheel 1-5 ACHME Part No. 1009262

Just to clear up a point that I'm not telling stories here are the photo's.

I don't know whats going on with you and butch but I also have had a Rock BR, and a Rock BR 1000 and 99% of the people don't know the difference between the BR and the BR 1000. I asked the friend that I sold mine to check the ram and it is the same as yours. So like I said 99% of the people don't know the difference. Some choose to believe that they are correct just because.

Hoghunter,
This unit was not sold by me.

Is there any way to adjust the free play out of the Shadetree rest? I don't totally understand what the adjustment screws actually adjust. I read the online instructions and they don't address the issue of any slack or free play. Do the Seb and Farley joystick tops also have freeplay?

The "Freeplay" I spoke of is in the Joystick movement and nothing to do with adjusting the actual rest coaxial movement.

Since this came up I dug the Shadetree out of the shed and spent some time checking it and comments on normal adjustment.

I saw a mention that the Joystick may be tight in the bearings and may need a tap with a Pin Punch to free it. Well, not even close as my Joystick will fall out by itself so after some study I realised that the diameter of the Joystick Bearing Surface was less than ideal and causing all the Freeplay.

To provide a solution I went around the front and rear bearing area with a "centre punch" and put a series of light dimples around the diameter until it provided some resistance to being installed in the two bearings, then a touch more until it became a tight resistance fit. Freeplay is now gone.

Haven't used a SEB but my Farley has no Freeplay what so ever and doesn't need adjustment between rifle weights.

Mega I had one of Butches tops and it was a great unit,I stupidly sold it ,tell me or PM me what sort of dollars it would take to get you to sell it.I am interested in purchasing it from you.............my interest dropped slightly after reading of the centre punch job you have done but I can work around that.

I started shooting F-open with a Caldwell Rock BR and upgraded to a Shadetree rest top. It was one of those changes that materially improved my scores. My only real complaint was that sometimes I couldn't get the combo low enough off the ground. Eventually got a NEO and sold the Shadetree/Caldwell but I thought I got good value and use out of it when I had it.
