John Wayne---God Bless America

Ok John Wayne fans.

Please name the two movies that the Duke made that were essentially the same movie with different casts. Two of my favorites btw.

You got the Duke of course.
The drunk sheriff.
The grizzled old deputy.
The kid.
The sexy lady.
The bad guy.

Etc etc

Rio Bravo and Eldorado.

Rio Bravo and Eldorado.

Dean Martin as the singing drunk sheriff backed up by Ricky Nelson (who played the Kid very well btw).

Classic.

And who could forget James Caan accidentally shooting the Duke with his shotgun pistol.

My favourite scene was in Rio Bravo when Walter Brennan was complaining about nobody caring for him and Wayne apologized and kissed Brennan's head. The look of surprise on Brennan's face made me think Wayne adlibed it.

I can truly appreciate patriotism

I started school just a few months after Pearl Harbor and saw WW2
through the eyes of a young boy.

The country was in 110% support of our fighting forces and patriotism
reigned----in the schools and in all walks of life. Tom Brokaw wrote his book
about the WW2 generation being our greatest---no disputing that but maybe
folks who got our country though the Great Depression era provided the
backbone necessary to get through WW2. Who knows?

I just suspect we could possibly be seeing the final flutter of a great
and mighty force in the world. We need to see more people get off their
asses and vote right ?

I'm outta here-----for a while.

Just remember. ''The Greatest Generation'' took prayer out of schools. This act eliminated morals and patriotism from our lives. They gave us LBJ with his ''Great Society'' and the Viet Nam war. That generation also produced Nixon. He went to China, opening the flood gates of cheap labor and goods, killing our whole industrial base.

One would think those sorts of things aren't government's place to instill. And if a given home's parents don't think it worthwhile to train and raise their children via instilling a solid moral compass and patriotism for the foundational pillars of this society, then we get such children becoming adults who don't care much about such things.

Personally, I'd like people to have a spine and a sense of parental purpose and responsibility. Combined with a readin'/writin'/'rithmetic type education that doesn't seek to indoctrinate "compass" type stuff, we'd likely still be on the path we once were.

As a Brit, I wish that my countrymen showed the kind of 'can do' attitude and maybe a bit of patriotism that is shown by all of you on this forum and of your history to fight oppression. I have always felt jealous of this feeling as it is missing from our country. Maybe a handful of our past politicians have had it unlike the woke types we seem to have today.
To sum it up in my view, America has the right stuff. I hope that it's still there for your future unlike this country which is going soft. But I love my country nevertheless.
God Bless America (and Great Britain).
