John Krieger

I just gota quick story to tell. Today I went to the Dallas Safari Club Expo. Mainly to remind me how much money I don't have. I walked threw the expo and saw alot of the guy's you see on tv. Shockey, Zumbo, Weishuhn, Colorado Buck ect. And they were talking to people and and giving seminars and stuff. By the way Shockey's got a smokin wife. She sure is tan to be living in Canada. Well it was a real cool show and to much to see in in day. You could spend 100k no problem. I saw 2 $250,000 rifles just laying on the table you could just pick'em up, check'em out like no big deal. And there was a lot of custom gun makers there. They had this section in the back part of the expo for custom gun makers. Not the big well known guy's or the high end production guns. But for individual custom gun builders. Like the guy's in the Guild. I found this section last after walking the rest of the expo. Well I'm walking around looking at rifles and I look up and there's John Krieger. Just walking around talking to the smith's. I got a barrel on order with them. So I said, If I would have known you were coming to Texas I would have had you just bring my barrel down. And he smiled and said ya that would have been convenient. John asked me about my barrel. I told him a 6mm 1 in 8. And he just started talking to me like we were just hanging out or something. He told me how about if it wasn't for Boots Obermeyer he wouldn't be in the rifle barrel business today. And told me that he never did work for him like the story's on the internet say. He did say Mike Rock worked for him. But that Boots did show him the ropes about making barrels. I asked him about the Obermeyer approved 5R barrels. And if Boots was about to hang it up. And told me he was and that he is 75 years old and still making barrels. I told him my smith that is building my rifle used to work for Ed Shilen and he really pushes Krieger Barrels. And what surprised me he said. Ya, not to long ago I bought a barrel form Shilen. I needed a .17 cal barrel and we don't make them anymore. So I called Shilen and got one. He said most of us barrel makes get along really good, except for one. Which I won't mention who. I told John that I got a Model 70 in 7mm Rem Mag with a Krieger Barrel on it. And told him with IMR4831 and a 150 grn Ballistic tip it would do a 1/4" if I do my part. Then he started telling me how he really liked the 7 Mag. And how for years metric calibers wasn't popular here in the US. And that he thought it was because of the WW2 guys and the 8mm Mauser. That they didn't like it and for good reason. I talked to him for probably 20-30 minutes and he did'nt act like he was in a hurry or anything. Infact he did most of the talking. I finally told him I'll let you get back to it. But I bet he would have stayed there and talked another 20 minutes if I had wanted to. He was a really friendly guy. He didn't have the old pissed off gun smith attitude at all. It makes me glad to do business with people like that. And to post something good to say about a person than something bad like you see alot of these days. I'm really glad I bumped into John Krieger today.

Sounds like a great guy. Good to know that there is a least one well known/ liked person that isn't busy walking on water looking down on the rest of us. Lol. 8)

Paul

I found out two years ago that most of the guys in th biz are down to earth. Melvin Forbes (NULA), Toby Bridges (Leatherwood/Hi-Lux), and MAJ. John L. Plaster (Savage Arms/ Ultimate Sniper author) were all real easy to talk to. Between the 3 of those guys, I killed a half of a day at the NRA convention. I spoke to countless other people, but those 3 stick out in my mind.

I'd encourage all shooters to go to an NRA convention or other such shooting-related expo. You'll meet your real-life heroes, and be among like-minded people... (Except for you weirdos who are on this site and voted for Obama, Clinton, et al...)

There's an amazing amount of positive energy in such venues. And these are talented, successful people, unlike the Kartrashians or other pond scum that litter TV nowadays.

Get out to a show. You'll feel better about our sport and yourself. And remember, the 2nd Amendment isn't about deer hunting or benchrest. Sure, such things are possible via the people being armed, but that's not the gist. The gist is for the people to have the means, and verily the duty, to replace a tyrannical government. The government that is trying to disarm you today like never before.

Here's to John Krieger, and Ed Shilen, and Mike Rock, and Lee Six (may that kind, funny gent rest in peace), and Dwight Scott and Jim Borden and all of the other real life legends in our sport.
