JGS floating reamer holder

Do any of you have pic's of a disassembled JGS floating reamer holder? And experience with one?
Thinking of getting one because I have made one that is the opposite of a bald eagle one and another one I bought.
and though im happy with the chambers i have done with them I'm not completely happy with the tools.
I would just like to try something else and don't want to buy something I'm not happy with the design.

I just ordered one of the jgs reamer holders. They told me to give it a try and if I don't like it I can send it back for a full refund. Although I expect it to work excellent just like their other products.

I have no expierience with taking it apart. So I can't help you there. But I can tell you it is a seriously well made and very solid tool. I went from the bald eagle to the JGS and never looked back. My chambers measured better and it deffinetly built my confidence. I think you will be very happy.

I bought one reamer holder,,,,,, 25yrs ago. I improved it, then made one that I'm still using, years later. The 'store bought' one I have set-up to hold 1/4" shank tools, the one I made is for 7/16" shank tools. The principals applied ? Basic machine tool design that has been around since the industrial revolution. There's no need to spend $$ on a 'store bought' holder when you have machine tools and steel to use whenever you want to.......... Think about it. You may learn something that can be applied to your chambering operation.

I don't have a problem dialing anything in.
I heard the JGS was a good one and thought it would be worth looking at. my tailstock is .007 high and the pusher I made works great but there are times when it is needed to switch up the methods.

The holder I modified and the one I made are not 'pushers'. Both are held in the tail stock. If you witness mark them, when you make/modify, it doesn't matter if the tail is high or low.

I have used a JGS floating reamer holder for over 20 years. Great product. Don't take it apart. It has about 30 ball bearings inside and they will go every where when they come out. I disagree with a previous posters post. It will float coaxially and concentrically. They are very tight when new and will loosen up with use. I do recommend that you have your tailstock alignment as good as you can get it before you use any floating reamer holder. JGS stands behind their product. I returned one after breaking out the set screw. They replaced it without question. I now won two of their floating reamer holders.

I'm doing a rigid one with #3mt blank to correct a unfinished chamber that is out .0025 at the head.
Hopefully it will do what I want for this barrel.

That just gives me idea's

I don't think I'd go with a ridged design, but to each his own.

The JGS does not float axially. So if the tail stock bore is parallel to the spindle bore it will be good. To check, mount an indicator on the chuck and indicate the taper of the tailstock. Take notes on its position. Now run it out a couple inches and indicate it again. If your notes show the same error with the quill retracted and extended then your quill and spindle bore should be parallel. My tail stock points down in the front. With shims I was able to get it close, but not perfect. I think the PTG is the only one to float radially and axially. I like a pusher, but If your chambers measure what the reamer does, then who cares.

Alex, as far as I know ptg reamer holder is the only one that does both radial & axial. I have one of the ptg holders I've used in the past and I liked it better than some of the others.

Which one of the ptg ones are you talking about the original design or the new one the minnie might or something like that?

Cloud repair, mine is the ptg standard if I'm not mistaken. Larger than newer version but same head design.
