Jewell trigger concerns

My wife Lisa is currently shooting a 30 Br Bat SV jewell trigger.
Recently spanning over the last 6 months the trigger has failed multiple times during matches.
Only one time was it the result of something actually in the trigger , a pulled bullet where powder got down in it.
Every other time which has been multiple I've taken it apart sprayed it with brake cleaner and reassembled making sure not to tighten the side plate screws to tight so not to put it in a bind.
I then put it back in the gun readjust the sear and tension and it will start working again.
It has a 30 /0 trigger hanger which I have tried in both positions and it has failed in both settings.
Every time but one there seems to be no apparent reason behind the failure, needless to say it is getting real old real quick.
It might be time to replace it with a Flavio if I can't get this figured out, any suggestions?

Just thinking the obvious - Using a good bore guide? Sandy environment? Primers not blanking? Was the action thoroughly cleaned of all the powder kernals? Firing pin assembly thoroughly cleaned and checked for debris? I don't trust the new brake cleaners to not leave residue.

Yes I use a Lucas bore guide and not much in the way if sand around here mostly clay and rock.
I have not taken the firing pin assembly apart, maybe I need to check that.

Without seeing the trigger myself, I don't know what is going on, but IME with Jewell triggers your situation is very abnormal. There is positively something amiss. Not that it will solve your issues but Jewell recommends the triggers to be flushed with lighter fluid. Since you haven't been able to resolve the issue yourself, it seems that your best bet would be to send it back to Jewell for inspection.

I'm at the point that I will probably replace it and then send this one in for inspection once I get a new one.

If the FP is the problem that should be apparent -- if the gun goes "click" it was probably not the trigger.

So what do you mean by "failed?" Failed to cock? Cocking but failing to release the FP? Something else?

Trigger hangers can be an issue if not perfect. Since the trigger works
for a while then fails, takes the hanger out of the picture. There should be no reason to leave side plate screws loose. Flush it with lighter fluid, adjust according to instructions. Put a snap cap or piece of fired brass in the chamber and fire that sucker until you decide its fixed, or it fails again. Then if it does, send it to Jewell. LDS

Haven't had any issues with my Jewell trigger , I do give it a flush with Charcoal lighter fluid , works better the regular lighter fluid . I use the stuff as a all around cleaner , give it a try.

When you say it failed...do you mean it won't reset/cock?

Before replacing it, take the time to follow Jack Neary's proceedure for detailing these triggers. It's available as a pdf file if you search on Bing, Google, etc.

Pay particular attention to how it fits in the hanger and how the hanger fits the action with the trigger in the hangar. Any tightness of the trigger in the hanger and/or the assembled hanger into the action recess will cause you problems sooner or later.

Prior to doing any of this, get the firing pin assy out of the bolt body and get it spotlessly clean....this should be done routinely, anyway...like at the end of every weekend. Check the firing pin spring and replace it if needed. Lighter fluid is what you need for the trigger as it has just a skosh of lubrication. Brake cleaners, acetone, etc. are ok for cleaning but you still need to follow it up with lighter fluid.

For what it's worth..... -Al
