jewell Remington triggers

Anybody out there have any suggestions for easiest fix for a couple of my Jewell triggers that have developed slop in trigger movement when you first apply pressure? It's almost like a military 2 stage trigger on a Springfield, M1, etc.

Apply just a little pressure & you feel a definate movement, at the end of the travel, resistance becomes "normal" and it will then fire, at the normal weight. Trigger weights have not changed, only the beginning of the slop.

Tried flushing out with Zippo lighter fluid, no change.

I would first readjust according to the instructions. It is not hard and nothing flies out if you take a sideplate off and do a visual. Do a search on BR.Com and you will see a step by step with photos.

I'm no expert, and don't know much about what's going on in there, so excuse my terminology :)

First, I'd take Butch's advice, although that didn't resolve the issue I had....

I had one with the exact condition that you described. I didn't even pull the action out of the stock, I just took it over to my smith. 2 days later it was fixed... He had to turn new pins to account for wear in the trigger assembly. The holes where each of the little pins goes through (and hold everything together) had worn out. He reamed and trued up the holes, then turned new pins to fit the new hole diam. It's back to breaking like glass.

That rifle was my smith's personal rifle that he built personally with brand new parts, including the trigger. That was a LONG time ago. The 'slop' came about a year after I owned it (that's my luck :) ). Anyway, my smith said he's NEVER seen one wear like that.

Butch: I just did a search for "Jewell triggers" & got essentially the same information that is included with each trigger, the fold out paper. Could not find any step-by-step instructions. For me, things come apart easier than they go back together, so would hesitate to dis-assemble the trigger.

Walt: These triggers, ( 2 BR's and 1 HV) all seemed to go bad at the same time. One week they were all perfect & then each developed the slop on initial takeup. All 3 were bought new, by me, between 1 and 2 years ago, so if it's a wear problem Jewell has a serious problem with the hardness of the stainless they are using.

Yeah Frank, it sounds like something else is the problem (not wear). It's really odd that you had 3 rifles do the same thing at the same time. Sounds like they need a little adjusting, like Butch said. However, I'm in the same boat as you, and wouldn't know where to start. I've never had the balls to pull mine apart!

Butch: I'd greatly appreciate that. In fact I'll make and keep a hard copy for future reference.

I can follow step-by-step instructions, especially when pictures are included, but anything less is sure to cause a big screwup.

We're right in the middle of our match season locally, & if I'm left with a small box of parts, the rifles are down and out for the count.
