Jewel Trigger Problems

Because when you pierce a primer it can break the bar on a Jewell. As a side note a Bix n Andy won't do that. Matt

This is the correct story...... pierced/blanked primers bust jewel triggers................ they ( jewel ) charges 40$ to fix them.......

Bob, I doubt if they will. Its not a material or
mfg defect. Its just something that happens
that Jewell has no control over.
Getting the FP bushed will avoid future problems.

I was going to post this very thing but I surely didn't want Badbob angry with me. :D

here is mine I broke after about 20 years service,,I think the ones without the safety are made a little different and may be a little harder to break ..

Piercing primers very often breaks three lever triggers, Jewel fixed mine, Shilen, and Hart did the same. I stopped that nonsense by having Gre-Tan bush the firing pin. Also, I shoot only thick cup primers.

The wrong primer for the load you are shooting
is more than likely the result of most trigger breakage.
The only primer I ever pierced was due to the wrong
primer in a 20Tactical. It broke my Rifle Basix trigger.
This was before I knew what a Jewell trigger was.
It probably would have done the same to the Jewell
The learning side of this incident, I already had 500
rds primed w/CCI 400s rather than 450s that I had to
change. If a load calls for a mag primer there is likely
a reason for that. LDS

I'm running CCI Br-4s that busted one trigger and Fed Match Gold bust another. BB

send your bolt to Greg Tannel or any other of the number of great gunsmiths and have your bolt bushed and firing pin turned to fit and it wont matter what primer you are using you wont be blanking any more primers,,
you might run enough pressure to lock your bolt up and the primer pockets get loose enough for the primer to fall out in one firing but you wont have a hole in the primer,,

with the correct fitted firing pin you should be able to run the softest primers made and run into major pressure indicators without piercing your primers,,you should be able to run Fed 205`s in a 6 Dasher or 6.5x47L..

I have shown these pics before and will again,

the 2 rounds on the left were shot in a Tac 30 action,,the middle 2 rounds in a factory Rem 700 Police, and the right 2 in the same Rem bolt after coming back from gre-tan rifles,,and a pic of the boltface after bushing and turning the pin,,as you can see there is no room for the primer to be be pushed back between the pin and boltface,,

I am not sure why it posted the pics in triplet but you can see why I advise letting Greg work your boltface,,the loads in all 3 sets of cases were the same,,6.5x47L ,CCI 450 primers and 42 grs H4350 with the Berger 130 VLD at 3015 fps,,

the 2nd blanked primer in the 700 Police blew the Jewell trigger apart to where it would not function,,2 weeks and 50$ latter I had the trigger back and I actually got my bolt back from Greg before I got the trigger back from Jewell..

if you are running any small primer case through a Rem 700 action should have your bolt bushed and I have had very good results with the factory heavy firing pin turned down and even use the factory firing pin spring,,

I assume he's opening up the firing pin hole, threading the opening and threading in the bushing? Or is it a weld and machine job?

If the former, how big is the hole prior to bushing insertion? [Not that I'm going to try it, just curiosity.]

Drop Greg a note. I sent him pics of my bolt face and primers and he got back to me the same day with a recommendation--"sleeve the bolt" Turnaround was like a week and a half. I have not had any problems since getting the bolt sleeved and the pin turned. BB
