Jewel trigger man close to me

Anybody know of a Model 70 Win. Jewel trigger installer/adjuster close to Wilmington,N C or Myrtle Beach,S C? This ain't no drop in unit. I would appreciate an e-mail or PM from anyone that might know. Thanks, Bill

Yea, I can tell Man. I was hoping to find someone maybe not too far from me so I would not have to ship me rifle anywhere. Maybe just drive and git-r-done in a day or so. Where are you located?
Bill

Guys,

What problems are you having with the Jewell trigger installation in Winchester M-70 rifles?

I have done four myself. Three took less than 30 minutes each by just following the instructions for install, adjust and test safety.

The forth took an additional 20 minutes to slightly reshape and polish the striker ramp for proper safety function. As it came from the factory, with the safety "on" pulling then releasing the trigger would result in the sear not resetting, engaging the striker lug) so that when the safety was subsequently moved to "fire" the striker would release and the gun would have fired. On this particular rifle this problem also occurred with the factory trigger and in part led to the owners desire to replace the trigger to begin with.

Note: I have done this correction on three other Winchester M-70s with factory triggers. All of these were purchased new within the last two years by the owners.

Fred, I ordered this trigger as a drop-in and from reading the instructions it looked alot more like a gunsmithing job. Anyway, I am just going to do something different since I can't find anybody close enough to me to do the work that I could drive to. I don't want to ship it nowhere. Bill

Bill,

I'm not being critical here so please bear with me. I have done quite a few trigger replacements using many makes,Jard, Jewell, Kepplinger, Rifle Basix, Sharp shooter Supply, Timney and Shilen) in several different makes of rifles,Remington, Ruger, Sako, Savage and Winchester) and even replaced Canjar and Shilen triggers with Jewell BR in some Panda and Viper custom rigs.

None repeat none were drop-in. There is always some minor "fitting" for non-exact replacements. Usually it is confined to modifying the inlet in the stock to clear the slightly different trigger housing shape and/or adjustment screw protrusions. Not as often but frequently, the cut in the trigger guard has to be either widened and/or lengthened to fit the slightly different shape and/or location of the new trigger spur. These IMHO do not require the services of a professional gunsmith or trigger guru, but do require someone with basic skills in the use of hand tools and more than average patience,to put a Kepplinger trigger in a Ruger #1 for example).

The problem I described in the previous post with file and polish work on the striker spur of the Winchester M-70 is the level at which specialized knowledge is needed and would be best left to a "trigger guru" or professional gunsmith.

Fred, I understand what you are saying but I just don't have any experience at all with that trigger. If it were a Remington, I would be all over it because I have done many of those without any problems at all. So, according to the salesman telling me it was drop-in I figure it would be simple. I just sent it back and I will try and adjust the factory trigger or put in a Rifle Basix. Something I am more familiar with. I appreciate your knowledge and if it were not for having to ship my rifle, I would have already asked you if you wanted to jump on this thing. I'm sure you have the knowledge to do it. Thanks, Bill
