Jeunke machine for spin balanced bullets??

loaders,

before a break in handloading a couple of years ago, i was seeing more and more about the jenki?? machine which would spin balance bullets for balance around the long axis. i think it works like when we have our tires spin balanced for a smooth highway ride? i sent a few boxes off to different ones who provided this service and would get back maybe 1/3 of a box of smk's in the plastic bag marked "0" for " no error" and then the rest as "1", "2" or "3" as more and more out of balance. shooting only the 0's in matches makes for some expense 8-)

now that im trying to get back into loading, i dont see much about people doing this balancing???

what is the current thinking about the jenki? machine and spin balancing bullets?? i had been thinking about buying one. thanks

Bill -- it definitely cant hurt, but i know several people that have given up sorting with the Jeunke machine.

I have never run one personally, but shoot with several folks who have.

If it helps you mentally though, it may be worth it.

YMMV,
JB

thanks!!

i think i should just get a box of smk 107's separated and load some ammo with the "no error" bullets, and load another batch with unseparated 107's and shoot several groups with each to see if i can tell some difference.

That would be a good experiment ;)

a couple 10-shot groups in good cinditions might show something.

need to do a blind test though, so the shooter doesnt know which batch he/she is shooting ;)

excellent point! and i would have missed it even though ive done research.

where/ how much$$ would one buy a juenke machine???

Bill...
The test is a great idea. Do you have a place where you can test at 600 or 1000 yards?

I shoot with a guy that claims to find 2 or 3 bad bullets out of every 500 Match Kings.

i only have 300 yrd bench available.

great idea about "blind" unbiased firing test. how does one do that at the bench without having a second person there to load and record??

Bill -- you really need a secnd persone there to hand you whichever 10rds they choose.

And you will get the machine right from Vern Juenke, but I dont have his number right now.

I have a Juenke,2005 model and cost now is $875). It is really good at sorting mass produced bullets or checking a lot #.

Sierras for example tend to be all over and will show improved groups once sorted. Really high quality customs do not normally show much variation, such as BIBs, Clinch Rivers and the now defunct JLKs. Some lots of bergers were good and some all over the map.

Some guys spin every bullet, no matter, just to catch that one "odd" one and the Juenke will do that.

YOu can also spin fireformed cases into lots. Have seen where a Juenke would confirm that one certain case which routinely throws a bullet out of the group is significantly different than the others on a Juenke. Before guys just threw the case away.

I test all my lots and if I can keep under 5 deviation units,DU) and I have faith in the mftr,ie BIB and CR now) I do not normally spin the whole lot except for big matches.

I use my Juneke spinner during these boring winter days when shooting is out of the question.
Of all the mass produced bullets I've checked the Nosler Ballistic Tips have faired the best of them all.
Three different lots of Hornady Amax 52 gr didn't do so well, but the 75 gr Amax was a lot better.
107 SMK's seemed to do bit better than the 105 Hornady A-Max in two different lots.
My 66gr Fowler FB bullets are hardly worth doing, and the 105 Laupa's are as good.
