Jb weld in scope base screw holes

Im bedding a Murphy precision base to a rem 700. Some of the jb weld has seeped into the screw holes and I can see jb weld around the screws. Should I remove the base and start over?

The jb weld is still wet, it's been on for less than an hour.

It's cleaned up now. Maybe I used too much? How you you keep the jb weld from seeping up into the screw holes?

About a 1/4 of what you used before.
Other question is why are you bedding the rail. I have used a Murphy rail on many 700’s and never bedded them. Your trying to solve a problem that may not exist. And maybe create one.
When I dry fit the rail, it didn't make full contact with the action. Won't bedding the rail help keep stress off the scope?

I make sure I have some of whatever release agent I’m using down in the screw holes and some on the screws. Whatever epoxy makes it down inside the action will pop out easily. No big deal.. And yes, bedding it will make sure it fits perfectly with less stress.

Just use release agent on the screws and don't worry about the holes.
I made sure I did that with the the release agent, (Redding die wax).
I'll do try it again today. This time I'll leave a gap around the screw holes. The jb weld will fill in those once I tighten. It down and hopefully keep the jb weld from running into the screw holes.

Be carefull with JB weld its slighty acidic will etch stuff. works great in automotive stuff.
Also get a bottom tap to make sure all the threads are clear and none of the JB is left.

Don’t worry about leaving a gap and it getting in the holes. Let the little nubs inside the action harden and pop them out with a screwdriver. If you want give a squirt of WD or spray release inside the breech and nothing will stick. It’s a non issue..

After I've mixed just JB enough for the bedding I add epoxy/lacquer thinner to make the JB about the consistency of latex paint.

Paint a layer on the rail only with a brush and set in place. Dip screws in release agent and snug up.

I do some prelim work in the mill vice to determine which end springs up upon loosening screws and snug only the other end when bedding, letting the springy end float with screws in place for alignment only.

Not much cleanup with this procedure.

Here's a pretty good read on the subject. . . . .
