Jamming bullets?

how does one measure hom much they are jamming the bullet? If i put a dummy round in my chamber, and then take it out there are marks on the bullet, right.... do i measure how big those are and thats how much im jamming them? Want to make sure. I dont want to jam them more than i have too.

The proper way is to get a Hornady/Stoney Point Comparater tool and a modified case. It's "repeatable" and accurate.
Some folks will split a case neck so the bullet sildes in and out and use that as a tool.
If you've got land marks on the bullet, it's stuffed too far into the lands for an "accurate" measurement. You want to know "where" you're getting contact so you can set the bullet jam accordingly. Get the "proper" tools to do the job.
