JamesnTN 108's?

James,

How did 108's shoot? I might order some today. Please tell us the whole story, powder, primers etc.

Chuck

I shot them Sunday using VV 550 powder and Fed 205 primers with no luck, The wind was really rough and it took a while to get them down range waiting on my condition to come back, Botom line is they didn't like the VV 550 so I now have em loaded up using Varget and hopefully will test them tomorrow after work.
I'll keep you guys informed of there performance and accuracy, these were shot in a 6 dasher with a 8 twist barrel.

I got a chance to get to the range after work this evening to test the 108 BIB in my 8 twist Dasher. I don't have any Chronograph data as I left it at home by mistake. The specs are Lapua Brass BIB 108 FB Moly coated OAL using a ogive gauge is 1.980 and it's .020 in the lands Seating force was 48 lbs using a .361 bushing in a .268 chamber with a loaded rnd measuring .2663. Powder used was varget starting at 33.0 grns and going up in .3 grn increments all measure on a DI TR-603D scale, Primers are Fed 205m Temp today was 45 deg with no wind or just an occasional puff and sunny.
My next outing I will use a tighter bushing .260 if I have one or turn over the wilson bushing and use a .2615 bushing.

The groups shot today are very promising and were shot at 300 yds I had one get away from me as you will see when I squeezed the trigger a slight puff of wind stirred up and tossed one shot out so for you guys that wonder you can see what a miss read condition can get you at 300 yds with only a puff of wind and I mean just a puff the tail on the flag wiggled is all it did. I still show some vertical I hope to get rid of by tightening up the bushing and going on up in my charge a bit more Once I get this worked out I'll play with the 450 mag primer and see how it performs. As one can see what only .3 grns in charge can show in groups. Hopefully if weather is permitting I'll get some chronograph readings on my next outing.

Just for the novices who may not be familiar with the Dasher case, it is an improved version of the 6BR with a shorter neck and 40-degree shoulder. The Dasher has roughly 3 grains extra case capacity. Don't try James' loads in a standard case. Also James is running moly. Ordinarily moly calls for up to one grain more in powder than naked bullets. All in all, you'd probably want to start about 3 grains low with a std case, naked bullet.

Chuck,

Not really,sorry) I purchased 1000 of them and sent a few to a friend who also has a 6 Dasher built off my reamer and I will have 2 6 Dashers when I get my new barrel from Krieger. Randy I would persume is still making them or was last I heard you may check with him on some I'm unsure of his minimum order though.
How m any were you looking for? I may order more in the next week or so I can take into account what you want and go from there.

James,
That is a tight grip..and you may make it tighter? What is your neckwall thickness,0.0115)? I have a similar reamer but less throat. Have fired the cases once and will turn them again to a little less than the current .0125 So I am interested in your config that allows tight grip. Do you think Mo coated bullets need more grip? Thanks for sharing your data and results.
cheers,

Donavan,

Here are specs of the BC of ea of the BIB 6mm bullets these were shot over 2 Oehler model 43's simultaneously, one acoustic target at 101.6 yards and a second at 287.6 yards.

95 grain, w/avg. 2819 f/s muz. vel for ten rounds.:
BCg1 = 0.425 over 101.6 yards
BCg1 = 0.413 over 287.6 yards

108 grain, w/avg. 2770 f/s muz. vel. for eight rounds:
BCg1 = 0.495 over 101.6 yards
BCg1 = 0.482 over 287.6 yards

121 grain, w/avg. 2836 muz. vel for nine rounds,40 grains N165):
BCg1 = 0.540 over 101.6 yards
BCg1 = 0.525 over 287.6 yards

OAL of the 108 is 1.1775 and from base to ogive it's .6145

Currently I believe my necks are .011 thick I need to get my ball mic back and measure to be more positive.
