James Calhoon primer article

I've seen this article referenced a few times here on the forum just recently. Very interesting stuff about the cup thickness.

However, this article is dated 1995. Would seem to me that if primers were getting pierce like this 14 years ago, the primer companies would have done something about it.

Is there more recent information about this? I've shot thousands of CCI 400 primers with fairly hot loads and never pierced a single primer.

otter: Unless the primer makers do not see it as a problem, knowing that the cause could be simply loads that are "over-the-limit". I too have used many thousands of CCI400 in both bolt guns and AR's without any problems. My standard load is 25.5 of Varget ( 26 listed as max in several sources) with the 69 gr. Sierra #1380, seated at .020" off the lands. I must admit that when briefly trying the max load of 26 grs. I did have hard bolt lift and flattened primers. Immediately backed off & they remain trouble free. I buy them by the carton of 5K.
