Jackie Schmidt Wins 200 Yard VFS At Tomball

We had an absolutely beautiful day in Tomball to shoot our first 200 yard Varmint for Score Match of the season.

We had really light conditions for Match One and Two, but from Three through Five it turned into Tomball, with twitchy winds and lots of mirage. We had a turnout of 21 shooters.

Jackie Schmidt won the Match with a “clean” 250 8x, Larry Savadres came in 2d with a 249 6 X, and Jim Moore was third with a 248
8x.
Thanks to the Tomball Gun Club and Match Director Richard Pullum for their efforts.

Jackie won the money shot with a (almost) perfect “pinwheel”.IMG_0575.jpegIMG_0578.jpeg

I think this was my best target, We had a switching Left to right, I caught all five shots just as it was settling on a quartering green coming at me.

I can relay a good use of the way I use my tuner. During the warm up match, I sensed that the rifle was shooting too flat, what I call locked in a horizontal tune. I simply turned my tuner, which is on a 36TPI, 1/8 of a turn and it rounded everything up. It then shot quite well for the five record targets.

Not real scientific, but I do this quite often if I am stringing shots in the horizontal in what looks like the same condition.

Also, the barrel I shot today is an old Krieger that is down to a little over 19 inches length probably on its 3d set back. I rechambered it for one of my Bat Neuvo Action Rifles that I have added the Tungstun weight to the rear of the firing pin.image.jpgIMG_0587.jpegimage.jpg

Another proof small changes with the tuner can make the change needed to win.

Jackie which way did you go with the tuner to get the horizontal tune out of it?
