Hey guys just looking for a little help, my wife’s uncle gave me a J.E Gebby in 22 varmint witch is a 22-250 he is wonting me to sale the gun for him, I have no idea on value or much history behind these guns if anyone can help thanks!

Need more info.History of the rifle if any .
What action, barrel, make, size, length, is the barrel shot out ?
Pictures are what sell items. Good luck.

Hal

Ya beat me Hal.
Some idea of round count, bbl twist, contour, length, action (Rem?), single shot, repeater, stock, overall condition would save you a lot of time messaging. Just trying to help :)

It’s a mouser 98 with the flip up safety on the bolt its a varmint barrel blued with a nice wooden stock, I was wondering if this is a production gun because it looks custom but serial numbers are on action an stamped barrel, also no idea of round count guns in great shape I can clean the barrel an look at it throw the bore scope

If he is still with us... can't he fill in the description so you can run comp values?

Less history and more uncertainty... dops the price.
Good records with provenance, helps justify the price and gives more confidence to the prospective buyers.

If he thinks the rig is worth something, then you can compare it to other listings of similar rigs, or even have it evaluated (for a small fee) by your local gunsmith or maybe his old club mates would probably do that for free?

At my club, we have had the unfortunate duty of helping the families of departed club mates. It doesn't take us long to estimate a fair price.

If it isn't worth much, then you could just take a decent photo and description and put it on the web for a time limited auction and get what you get.

also that’s a Boush&Lomb elite 3000 5x15x50 if anyone knows what there value is I was thinking around $300

Sorry but you got to do better with the pictures. Put it on a white sheet. They are way to dark. It looks like very nice blueing.

98 military action. The waffenmaught(sp) is a dead give away. Under front mount is a code the nazis used to I.d. the manufacturer. Mostly cause they were not supposed to be building rifles after ww1. Jerry Gebby is who started the 22-250. Think he did one on a 250 one on 257. Came out in the early 50s I think maybe before. Any way it's hard to put s price on something that's practically a one off. 98s are no too popular anymore. Fact that Gebby built it( being the 22 varminters father) helps imo. What kind of money does your uncle- in law think he wants for it?

He act like 1200-1800 but I don’t have any real idea. After I looked up waffenmaght I could be wrong but did he use this action to build this gun after it was used buy the Germans?

$12-1800, I think you better cut that in half, and still a hard sell at that. Scope is good and is good stuff, once you use a side focus the AO is a pita.
I have bought more old customs than I should have over the years wildcats to boot. Most on milsurps actions a few on commercial actions. Last one I bought needs attention. 224Clark that was on a Mauser action, came with dies and Clark bullets. Bubba had a drill motor, dull bit and bad set up, twice. Didn’t find that out till I took the scope base off. I am in it now for the price of a prefit barrel, $400.
Your price point it better come with dies and a fair bit of extras, along with having a minty bore.
Just saying these old Varmint rigs can be worth less, or bring less than what it cost to build years ago, ot everything has gone up.
Buddy was into Model 12 shotguns, he should have dumped them 12-15 years ago. If he breaks even now he will be lucky. Two local shops here have them stacked like cord wood, I myself wouldn’t want to dust the damn things.
