It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

Moved out of my comfy stand to the ground in a spot where I had seen a decent looking buck (from a distance anyway :D) twice in three days. I love it when a plan comes together. Not the same buck, but at this point in the season with standing corn on 3 sides of our farm, I jumped on the opportunity. 700 Remington, 6 Dasher/105 Berger HVLD's, Reloader 15, Jewell trigger, #3 contour Brux 1 in 8, Leupold VXR 4-12 X 50 LRV reticle. Took out part of the heart and liquified some lungs. Ran about 50 yards into the brush on pure adrenaline.

Nothing wrong with him!:)

Elk can get up to 1000 pounds?! What’s a normal sized elk?!

That's the normal size for one that big. :p
I just couldn't help myself. :)

Seriously, it's hard to say what most weigh, cause there probably isn't one out of a hundred elk ever get to a scale before being gutted and skinned.

Coastal elk are huge beyond imagination, and big Rocky Mountain bulls in their prime are also. Seems to me that mature bulls are about a third larger than the big cows. jd

Edit: just got a call from the hunter, it’s hilarious how excited he is about all this. They have scored it at 180” by the taxidermist. This buck may be ranked as one of the states bigger taken once officially scored.

They can get big this one I think dressed out was right at 200 if not over. There were a few bigger ones taken this year that I know of. they are also known as the grey ghost around here they love to hide out in the dark timber where not much light gets through the canopy. it was tough getting it out whole in some steep country.

He shot it @ 4:30 and it went 100yds. He’s pretty happy tonight and can’t wait to show me tomorrow. Him and his wife are expecting their first child so it’s a good year for him!
