Thanks McGraw, there seems to be no shortage of coyotes around here. I’ve been calling them for 6 years now- after the first coyote I was hooked.

This year was pretty rough hunting for elk. We usually hunt in areas that the elk migrate into when the snow flies. Well until about a week into November we didn't get enough snow to push elk anywhere and most of October was in the 60's and 70's. I blew a chance at a bull opening day on my non-resident tag and never got a decent chance the rest of the season. For our resident tags we usually hunt the last 4 to 5 days of the season. This year was no different but we had about zero snow the first couple days. We spotted a raghorn 5 point at about 3 miles and put a sneak on him. Our buddy from out of state waited too long to shoot and they blew out. The second to the last day on the way into our glassing spot I spotted a spike bull and let him have it. That afternoon and evening it snowed a decent amount and I knew the last day of the season would be good. Once again on the way in we got in to about 40 elk and 2 more spike bulls. They happened to be above the road about 100yds when they got to meet a Berger. This hunt gave a new meaning to "spike camp". Last year we say 13 bulls and this year we saw 4. We weren't going to pass up spikes with the lack of weather and elk we saw.

The guides thought 950. He was with eight other mature bulls (all 6 pats) and he was noticeably bigger bodied. Quite the toad!

Geez I hate posting behind a great bull like that. Anyway most of you know the troubles I have on my own property, my neighbor gave me the invite. Got this today, rutty and pissy, smallish rack but about 170 on the hoof by my guestimate.
!00 yards, about 30 degree down angle - thus the low exit. Ran about 100 yards.
6 BR with a 103 ELDX. Entrance was on the crease where the neck and shoulder meet.

The rifle is an old Rem 700 that’s been trued and tricked out over the years. It was a 7STW but as tough as brass was getting to find I changed cartridges.

It is now a 30-28 Nosler shooting 215 Hybrids with a stiff load of H1000 and CCI mag primers. It’s shooting consistent 2” 3-shot groups at 800 yards. It’s a beautiful round. My Leupold VX6HD crapped out so I threw my Nightforce ATACR on it. I shot my Nevada mulie at 805 last month with this setup.

This shot was 458 yards. Wind was 25 mph or so. The topography made it more of a crosswind than I anticipated. The finger ridge we shot from was super steep. I initially had probably more than 10 degrees of cant. Thankfully I had a level.

It’s funny because I usually shoot cows. Great meat and tags I can get. I’ve been building points for trophy bulls and this was my second of what I hope is 5 trophy bull hunts before I’m wearing diapers.

My 7yr son shot his first buck last night and second deer ever. I couldn't be a happier father. 9pt weighed 199# on the hoof, but just a little 80.5gn berger from the 223ai dropped him in his tracks.
