It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

Is she a black mouthed curr? If so, how is she temperament wise especially with children. Might want to get one. Been dog less several years.

She’s half Mountain Curr and half Feist. She’s never really been around kids, but she’s a little stand offish with strangers. That’s probably just because we didn’t get her around many different people when she was a pup. We did raise her with two grown cats and she does just fine with them. She’s very gamey and does get a little aggressive with our other dog if there is prey involved. Small critters like mice, chipmunks, moles, and voles are in short supply since she’s been patrolling the property.

My best advice would be to research all of the common breeds and talk to some reputable breeders. I like to start with a young pup so that I can get them used to the household since mine are pets first and hunting dogs second.

1st season IA:

Buck 2025 1st coy.jpg
My older cousin's 12yo got his 1st buck hunting with his dad out of his man-cave on stilts on his grandma's ground. The buck was shot around 60 yards with a price-point Savage Axis 350L I set up for him.

My younger cousin's (brother to the cousin above) 8 yo got a dandy for his 1st buck. Shot out of a redneck blind bolted to a snow-mobile trailer over his daddy's lease/food plot. It was shot right before dark, so they brought it up to my place for some "glory pics" the next day. This buck was shot with a GL AR in .350L at 35 yards.

I sat behind my place from Sat-Mon of 1st season and the only buck I saw was a little 4-point fork.

2nd Season IA:
Buck 2025 1st Gav.jpg
My older cousin's 17 yo got his 1st buck (with some assistance, he hit it a little too low & forward with his 350L, it ran by me & caught a 210gr cor-lokt .400L anchoring it).

Father & son kills:
Buck 2025 Mike R.jpg
This one was taken on my cousin's lease with a Marlin Guide gun in .45/70.

His son took this one on our usual property with a Savage 220 20ga.
Buck 2025 Brett.jpg

I've got more pics but the old laptop isn't cooperating at the moment...

2nd season IA continued:

Buck 2025 heads2.jpg
These were shot within 50 yards of each other but a week apart. One was killed 1st season & not found, the other was killed 2nd season but was rotten (they gutted it out & it was full of pus).

I ended up firing 3 shots, two of which were killing wounded deer that my cousin's kids shot (one was the buck posted previously the other was a big doe hit too low on our last drive of the year).

The only one I tagged was this meat doe taken on my cousin's lease. One high-shoulder with the .400L off of my cheap homemade shooting sticks at 50 yards dropped it in it's tracks:

Overall, we had 24 hanging plus the two heads:

We had a couple of days of -30* weather so it wasn't the most pleasant deer season we have had. I've been participating in organized deer drives with the same group since the mid-80s. We're now on the 4th generation of folks with this group.
