It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

It's that time of year again. Let's see those big and small game kills of the '18-19 season.

First one of the year for me, not a trophy, a doe with the muzzleloader. Will yield some nice roasts, chip steak and lebanon bologna. :)
Five at 255 yards, that is. Where the atv is, that's where five were shot, I'm at 255 yards in the woods at the triangle, all were drt with the 17 hornet, the throat shot was the day's best, as I put it on his nose and had a drop of exactly 3,2 inches. The Hornady ballistics calculator seems right on.All the rest were body shot in first third of body.

Longest shot on groundhogs in three years, with 204,312 yards lasered, HSM 35 grain berger flat base match hollow point, at that distance, 4.3 inch drop with Hornady's ballistics calculator. I'd say I was dead on shot in the back between the shoulder blades, from top of the head to the bullet entrance, almost exactly four inches. I'm pointing where he was when the shot was taken, where atv is in a wooded edge, where I was hiding, took six in 8 hours, saw at least six more.Despite what long range shooters may say 312 yards is a good poke on a groundhog ,one that many will never accomplish, practice, knowing equipment is key.

Went out Monday 92 degrees sat out for 9 hours on a knoll overlooking a recent cut alfalfa field, saw 30 plus gh's shot at 21 missed one due to miscalculation of wind gusts, killed 20 drt,10 with 17 hornet out to 212 yards, 10 with 204 out to 264 yards, broke my lifetime record of 20 in one day. Some of these silverbacks measured 28 ,30 inches from nose to end of tail, some heavy fat boys.Hunting suppressed is definitely an advantage. Two gh's sitting on same mound, dropped one the other never made the pop of the suppressed 204, dropped it within 10 seconds. Shot of the day ear shot at 274 yards dead center.I credit this shooting to practice and prior swat training when I was in 20's.practice makes perfect.sat under this maple 9 hours overlooking this huge hayfield of fresh cut alfalfa.

I know, a lousy picture. But what it shows is a ground hog out pretty late at night. I have got quite a few pics/videos of them out at night in the past few years. I’ve read here and other places about how “they only come out in the daylight and that’s why coyotes aren’t getting them at night”. They do, sometimes, come out at night. IMG_2755.jpeg
