It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

My son's first ever Whitetail, and my own from The 30th of Nov.
Son used the new smokeless muzzleloader we built this year, took his deer at 158 yards. I told him that he has set the bar kinda high for himself and that not every year do you tag out mid October!

It's that time of year again. Let's see those big and small game kills of the '18-19 season.

First one of the year for me, not a trophy, a doe with the muzzleloader. Will yield some nice roasts, chip steak and lebanon bologna. :)
Winter coyotes keep coming, notice my patented neck shot 17 hornet drops em easily at 250 yards +

Here’s one from 2024. I have only taken one picture of the coyotes this year. As of today 68 of them have been laid to rest this year. I’ve got a couple more excursions planned up to northern Montana after Christmas so maybe I’ll end up with 80 to 90 total depending on the weather.

A little after 7 this morning this guy showed up a whopping 25 yards away (if I leaned backwards). I shot him with my father's M88 Winchester 308 with a 130 grain TTSX in the left shoulder. He went 50 yards. I have to say I have never seen so much damage from a shoulder hit. Left shoulder gone. Neck muscle meat gone. Bullet deflected and went out the last rib on the right side, getting the liver and a bit of stomach. It was a broadside shot. I lost the forward portion of the tenders under the spine too. I cannot believe he went that far.

I sat in the stand for a long time looking at these: If I shot them all I would have had more meat than what I will get from that deer! I think some of them were cats disguised as fox squirrels.

Then of course this guy walked by:

Seems no matter what I always shoot the small deer!

It was a good opener in PA today.

I think a lot of us have done just that….

Had a fun day in Illinois yesterday! The Good Lord above provided me with a dandy 5 1/2 year old buck. Would have been a 10 point but his G4 on thr RH side was broken off from fighting. I was in an elevated blind with my trusty 50 cal. CVA MRX muzzleloader, topped with a Leupold Ultimate muzzleloader scope. The old warrior came into a field with some does and stood a minute or so straight on to me about 85 yards out. I looked him over with the binoculars to see if he warranted harvesting. That can be tricky, as many times what the binoculars magnify turn into a case of ground shrinkage. As the old warrior began to come closer I carefully got the window down without any unexpected noises that would send him off on the run. I had does close to the blind also, making opening that window a bit nerve wracking. As I got the rifle steered his direction, he quartered away from me towards the woods. I touched off the shot and he stumbled and then bounded into the brush. I gave him a few minutes and then climbed down. I went into the woods and got about 20 yards before I came upon the trail of leaking tranny fluid. He was headed down hill and probably made it around 50 yards. He ended up against a good sized tree. If he had not landed at the tree, he would have dropped right straight down into a deep gully. As it was he was already in a steep wooded side hill. At 77 years old, having had a severe leg injury in 2010 and my hip hurting I was extremely gratified to have two strong, younger guys to get my buck up out if there. Fortunately, I had remembered to take my cargo sled with me that morning. I am a fan boy of those 250 grain Thor hammer bullets propelled by Blackorn 209 and ignited with magnum large rifle primers. I have taken several deer with them now and they haven't let me down. This was a complete pass through, so I didn't have the bullet to examine. On a side note, one of the guys hunting with us saw the biggest buck he had ever seen in the wild yesterday. He was watching it through his shotgun scope as close as 65 yards, but in brush so thick that he was unable to get a shot. It was a 6X6, wide and tall. What a great day in the woods for us it turned out to be! Thank you Jesus!

A few more early winter casualties all stung by the 17 Hornet, I pulled a shot on the one as he started to run, so he got clipped in the middle of the body, in the spine. He scuttled around, spraying blood, but went down in less than 10 seconds, only moving 10 feet.

You gotta love those high racked bucks. I had one here late in the bow season that I called sky high. He had 10 tall points. I think he has been harvested.
Had a pic last year of a very similar buck, likely an older relative. More length, more mass, more body weight, same antler structure.

I wouldn’t have passed on that one. In fact, he was the only one I decided I would shoot if I saw him, and let everything else walk.

Last Wednsday, first day out of the combine. Caught this one loping across my fresh cut cornfield at 225yds, he stopped to take a dump and I let an 85gr Sierra soft point fly. Thru both shoulders with a quarter sized exit. This is my deer bullet.

Winter action, sub-zero wind, and deep snow make life tough for coyotes, so bait piles kick in. Last night, just at dark, this one came in across the river and started working on a deer's hind end. My 125 yard station have four now,one shot drt distance from deer and where he dropped 1 foot, couldn't retrieve too dark ,snowed about 8 inches overnight, sequential pictures, deer and coyote completely snow covered, snow shook off coyote and back across river with him.My patented spine shot.17 HORNET.
