It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

As I grow older I am finding revisiting the past...going to farms I once hunted, spending time with old memories, carrying guns owned by great granddad, grandad, dad, friends now gone...all of this means nearly as much as the deer or groundhog...but the icing is taking game again with such rifles or shotguns. Making what may be a last memory with these tools brings things in a circle and honors those freinds and dear memories. Well Done Taylor
Yes sir, memories are all we’re left with.. Great insight and well said!

It's that time of year again. Let's see those big and small game kills of the '18-19 season.

First one of the year for me, not a trophy, a doe with the muzzleloader. Will yield some nice roasts, chip steak and lebanon bologna. :)
Snow bait casualty, the first snow of the year gets them moving. Patented neck shot again,DRT.

A little after 7 this morning this guy showed up a whopping 25 yards away (if I leaned backwards). I shot him with my father's M88 Winchester 308 with a 130 grain TTSX in the left shoulder. He went 50 yards. I have to say I have never seen so much damage from a shoulder hit. Left shoulder gone. Neck muscle meat gone. Bullet deflected and went out the last rib on the right side, getting the liver and a bit of stomach. It was a broadside shot. I lost the forward portion of the tenders under the spine too. I cannot believe he went that far.

I sat in the stand for a long time looking at these: If I shot them all I would have had more meat than what I will get from that deer! I think some of them were cats disguised as fox squirrels.

Seems no matter what I always shoot the small deer!

It was a good opener in PA today.

I shot this one yesterday afternoon in Northwestern Pennsylvania after waiting him out for almost an hour to get a shot. He stood in a thicket that long until a doe snorted to my right, and that brought him out to investigate. Cooper 52 6.5x284 100gr TTSX after almost 30 deer using this bullet,It still amazes me.IMG_5255.jpegIMG_5249.jpeg

While not Boone and Crockett, she was happy as it was her first. He's in a cooler now. .243 80gr nosler BT with 4831 dropped in his tracks no exit as he was only about 50yds out. Finally got the trees cut out of the road to gain access from hurricane Helene last year. The right of way owner wanted logs out of them so it took some work.

My 11yo son got a great one in the last hour of the last day of our 9 day season here in WI. He was kind of campaigning to shoot a doe but we still had 30 minutes of shooting time. 15 minutes later a dandy buck walked right into the doe and two fawns and started feeding. 200 yards and a 6.5 Grendel w/ modified 120gr Nosler Etips (back end trimmed bringing weight to 87gr). 2930 fps. He was VERY excited, but w/ tripod as a rest it’s a game changer for young kids.

Well done! But we gotta know more about trimming a monolithic and why? Apparently it worked...

In the Grendel, 22-2400 fps doesn’t get those bullets into the velocity window where they expand really well IMO…. I just feel that the higher velocity provides better disruption and the monolithic construction will provide for retaining some of the penetration. 4 deer now for him using this combination and I’m still liking what I’m seeing with their performance. Rifle is the Howa mini w/ a ‘repurposed’ Heym hammer forged barrel blank…those I got from Numrich for a song, 50-60 bucks…and they shoot incredibly well.

I took my son and son-in-law hog hunting Friday morning. I shot a sow, left the stand to bleed it out, came back and along come these guys. I waited until one stood broadside, fired, then raised the scope and saw 3 piglets down. A 26 Nosler might be too much…
