It pays to hit the obscure gun store...

Found this gem hiding in the corner of a tiny bait shop/gun store today. I asked what it was and he handed it to me and said it's a 223 but he has been unable to sell it. Well a keen eye could tell from a distance it's a FT/R rifle with a 30 inch barrel. It's a 7 twist barrel so it should shoot heavies well, single shot large shank target action with red blade trigger. Never seen a Savage stock with a forearm rail? Picked it new in the box for $1200 out the door, the tag on it has a price of $1595. Didn't need it but couldn't leave it behind for that price.

And that is why I don't go into gun stores! 5 years ago I saw a Persian Mauser in a local shop for $1,000, which at the time I considered too high. I still think about it...... even knowing I would have trouble squeezing it into my safe next another pristine Mauser, too nice to shoot.
In Sunday School we would recite the Lord's Prayer, and when it came to " and lead me not into temptation", I never gave it a second thought, because what child ever resists temptation? Older now, I find it easier to pass the shops, never knowing what I am passing up, but not having to rationalize the unexpected expense.
