Is this an excessive lenght chamber?

I know, no one understands what that means but if I trim the neck with a trimmer based on the length of the case and then set the trimmer up on the shoulder I will be trimming the case .014" too short; so I add extra length of the case from the shoulder to the case head to the length of the case.

Have you measured the Fired brass from your rifle? Do you use dedicated brass for only that rifle? If so set your die to bump the shoulder a couple of thousandths. Neck size, then trim to normal +.014 overall or shoulder to mouth as normal
If done the way you propose you will have head failures because you will be stretching the area just above the head

The chamber is normal from the datum to the end of the neck in the chamber or as they say to the beginning of the throat. Again, I find it impossible to understand how a tool can be with us for over 70 years and reloaders fail to be able to understand its function.

The Wilson case gage is a datum based tool, the Wilson case gage measure the length of the case from the datum to the end of the neck and from the datum to the case head. I understand, it blows the reloaders mind when trying to figure how the gage measure the length of the case from the datum to the case head and at the same time measure the length of the case from the datum to the end of the neck.

And then there are case trimmers that set up on the shoulder of the case with total disregard for the length of the chamber from the datum to the bolt face.

And then there is 'head failures:? It is most difficult for most reloaders to keep up. Most reloaders have a silly little saying that goes something like: The firing pin drives the case forward to the shoulder of the chamber etc.., etc.. I could say think about it but that has never worked. If the case stretches between the case head and case body the case head separation is caused by the case shoulder setting at the shoulder of the chamber.

And then there is the most impossible concept in reloading: When I fire cases in that chamber the shoulder does not move and the shoulder I finish with is not the same shoulder I started with.

DID I MEASURE? I measured the length of the chamber from the shoulder to the bolt face before I started. I am the fan of reducing case travel, I off set the length of the chamber with the length of the case from the shoulder of the case to the case head.

I am unfamiliar with L.E. Wilson products.
I do have a lot of rcbs including the micrometer case gauge set for 223 and 308.
If I understand the 2nd paragraph I use my micrometer to set overall length to control bullet jump when I shoot long range for maximum accuracy. More control = better predictability

Your 4th paragraph sorta reads like the first chapter of the Hornady reloaders manual.

5th paragraph That’s why they call it fire formed brass and what I use to set up my sizer die with

The one thing I do not want is a throat that will crimp the neck to the bullet. I do not want anything slowing my bullets dowm before the bullet gets out of the neck. I am the fan of the bullet jump, I do not like the ideal of the bullet setting at the lands wondering if it is going to be able to get past the lands. I want my bullet past the lands before the bullet knows the lands are there.

I also like a bullet seated off the lands. If it is stuck into the lands it could pull the bullet leaving it stuck in the throat if you have a misfire. I also like to bump my shoulders back a tad so the bolt closes smoothly.
