Is this 700 Bolt Wear Normal?

Hey all, new to the forum and a beginner to precision shooting. I have 115 rounds through my Remington 700 LR in 7mm Rem Mag. I noticed the bolt had some wear on the bottom and wasn't sure if this is normal. Sorry for the newbie question. Any insight is appreciated.

The top pic looks like a sloppy grind job on the extractor rivet.

I grew up shooting M700's, and still love them, but it is getting hard to remain a fan when I see stuff like that more and more often lately.

That is NOT normal. For starters, check your front action screw & see if it's protruding into the lug area.

At first I thought it was dragging on the bbl tenon but the counterbore on the tenon does stick back past the front of the lugs ?

If this was a new rifle I would be whining. If it was used I think the extractor was replaced by a hack gun mechanic.

Not normal at all, but like the 1st posted mentioned it looks like a sloppy grind job on the rivet, the lines are going the wrong way for it to be rubbing and causing that..
Seems like more than normal wear on the edges of the lugs too, especially on the bottom..
You need to push your shoulder back a little too if you reload, from the look of the brass that collecting on the face of the bolt..
If the bolt drops easy with out any pressure involved I wouldn't worry about it...

Thanks for the reply, Preacher. I bought the rifle new and it has always taken a bit of pressure to get the bolt to drop. I'm guessing that's a bad sign?

As for the shoulder height and brass on the bolt face, I only neck resize after my initial full length resize and firing. I might be off base, but I've been lead to believe that neck resizing is the most accurate method. I obviously only fire these rounds out of this rifle.

+1 on what Dusty says...the wear I see (between the lugs) is from the bolt sliding on the front action ring just ahead of the magazine. the heavy grind marks on the extractor rivet is really bad if the factory did it. If the bolt is binding while pushing it forward with no ammo in the rifle...try removing the magazine follower and see if the binding still persists..
But yes that is somewhat normal wear...
But the newer actions are rough, look at the machining burr left at the end of the guide rail notch.!! If you run the bolt thru the action without some light lubrication you will get dry wear...which is what I see..

Someone got carried away grinding the extractor rivet after peening.
(craftsmanship out of Alabama no less)
F/Length size the fired brass & set the shoulder back .003"

AND apply some sort of grease on the aft end of the bolt lugs, the bolt handle's extraction cam surface & the firing pin cocking cam surface @ 6O'clock in the aft end of the bolt body.

It just ain't your Grand Daddy's Remington Company any more!

It's obvious to me when looking at some of my 30+ year old Remingtons compared to the trash they are throwing out the door now. Company & quality has gone to hell in a handbasket. And the real problem is that I don't think they really give a Rat's Arse. Buy a new Remington and then go and spend a wad to have a competent gunsmith get it to factory specs.

Regards.....

I think the grinding was done after it left the factory, otherwise the "blueing" would still be on it.

The bottom two pictures clearly show something has gouged the bottom lug and the the metal was pulled foward . It's clear the rivit area was ground. That wasn't what I was looking at. It could be the scope base screw also . Depending on right or left handed . Larry
