is there a way to convert bottom bolt release to top bolt release on Savage?

I have two rifles that came with accustocks and accutriggers. They both have the sliding button on the front of the trigger guard to release the bolt. Ive come find that most stocks, triggers, etc were made to fit the design with bolt release on the side/top of the action.

Do I just need to buy a complete trigger group to get the correct part? Is there a conversion? Ideas?

My savages are that way to. I don't like the bottom bolt release either. They are a PIA when I'm working on the rifle. I understand you can buy the parts to convert to top release, but savage will only sell them to gunsmiths. On mine I believe I will do away with the savage bolt release and just drill and tap the rear receiver ring.

Afterall they are just savages!

and I'm not going to sell them

napsac9 I think you should take a good hard look at your "bolt release", it's also the sear, which is why Savage only sells the parts to a Gunsmith.

Some people should not work on firearms/anything they know nothing about and you sir are one!

It appears that to me after looking at pics of the "new" sear that it is possible that the older style would work, but it would take some work, machines and tooling that if you can't do it yourself and would have to pay a competent gunsmith to switch it over...... Why didn't you buy a old style to begin with?

This pic shows the 2 old style sears, the older 2 piece and the 1 piece.

You can jest replace the new sear with an old style sear. Any FFL can order them from Savage direct.
You will have to modify the stock and the rear bridge for the old style sear.

Thanks for the advise guys...especially the pics. I didn't realize the side of the action was also different until I looked at the pics. I am not too worried about my skills modifying the stock and bottom metal, but I really don't think the expense of modifying the action is worth the trouble at this time.

Ok taildrag. Thanks for your support. The bolt release on the savage can be modified so that it doesn't catch the bolt and still allows the rest of the trigger mechanism to work correctly. Just because I said I would do away with the bolt release doesn't mean I was planning to take out the whole part. Just an explanation on my part. I'm not gonna argue with anyone. Thanks for posting on the site.

No, that portion of the sear does triple duty. It retains the cocking piece pin( firing pin) when the bolt is cocked and locked, the bolt stop- bolt release in conjunction with the front baffle.

If you remove the bolt then look inside the bridge you'll see that portion protruding up through a slot in the bottom of the bolt race.

Actually it is quite simple. I have a friend that has a newer model 10 tac in accustock, he hated the stock. I had an hs that he liked but it was side release, he also wanted to run a dbm from CDI precision. The cdi bottom release dbm is nothing more then the standard 4.4" model with the right "bar" , next to trigger shoe, milled off. It also comes with an aluminum L shaped piece that gets devcon'd to bottom bolt release leg. This L has a rectangle hole milled into it to accept that leg. I filed shallow groves into the leg and devcon'd it on. It looks very similar to a m700 bolt release and functions the same except trigger needs to be pulled first. I'm sure the L shaped piece can be bought separately for a few dollars . I bedded the hs and partially filled in the empty side release inlet. That set up is pretty smooth looking also. The L shaped piece was quite sharp cornered, so i broke all edges and beveled it. I believe that quite a few chassis that are made for 4.4" center feed side release could be milled slightly or precision dremeled for the L shaped piece so that a bottom release action can have more stock options.
