Is the March target scope really that good.

According to a post last week on BRC, it was claimed the March scopes are NOT servicable... as the internals and lenses are epoxied.
I guess after 3 years you're S.O.L....sure won't do much for the re-sale value either.
If I shot well enough to place in club matches...I might have one.......but.....I don't... therefore I won't.

I'm pretty sure I've read just about every post on BRC about March scopes and I don't recall seeing anything stating that they weren't serviceable. Can you provide a link to the post that stated that?

If parts are epoxied, you would think nothing should ever go wrong.Time will tell. I would really hate to get a scratch or bore cleaner spray on the lens.

I remember the thread and went back to look at the details. As fun as it is to read his posts, I wouldn't consider alinwa authoritative on the subject. But it is worth noting that although he believed they weren't serviceable, he was "selling stuff to buy a March."

Greg Walley had a better summary of the warranty later in that thread. From his post:

...In fact, to my knowledge, in spite of the stated warranty from Deon Corp., there have been no charges billed to any customer to date…even though a few of the scopes that were sent back were damaged to do improper installation and other abuse.

...Subsequent disassembly and reassembly of one is quite labor intensive.

I suppose that it’s easy to sneer at the five-year warranty on an expensive product such as this. Apparently this is a common standard in the Japanese high-end optics market. For example, a quick internet search on Nikon Nikkor lens systems, regardless of cost) is limited to five-years....

I read that post on BRC by alwina, and questioned it at the time. There have been other posts commenting on the high cost of postage to return the March to Japan for repairs, and how expediently the scope has been returned. Don't know who to believe, but I bought one. No problems yet.

PS - If alwina is correct, it might explain why the limited warranty to the original purchaser only. They would not want to hand a new scope to second buyer.

I'm more inclined to accept Greg Walley's explanation of the five-year warranty.

From what I've seen, with Leupold at least, the lifetime warranties are for the lifetime of the scope model, not the owner's. My brother has sent in probably half a dozen scopes to Leupold in the last few years. Several of them they said they couldn't repair because they didn't have the parts for that model of scope anymore. Instead, they offered him a new model at what is probably dealer price.

It'll probably be a few years before we get to see how Deon is going to support the out-of-warranty scopes. No matter what, it's an impressive scope with some really nice features. They sure aren't cheap, but the price is in line with comparable quality scopes.

Has there been any reports thus far of March scopes needing to be returned for not holding point of aim?
If not what repairs were needed, were they manufacturer faults?
Just read previous posts and was curious.

A shooter friend told me he knew someone, the original buyer) who returned a 40X March to Japan because the reticule was fuzzy on one side, sounds kinda odd). He said the scope was repaired and returned quickly. Sounds as though some disassembly to make repairs is possible.
